摘要： The invention provides an ascender (10b) or other rope-gripping device which is separated from its handle (11b) by a connection (26) of length such that when, in use, the ascender (10b) is attached to a single rope (28) suspended from above with a second, handled ascender (10a) below it the second ascender (10a) can be lifted up along the rope (28) to a position where its associated handle (11a) is above the handle (11b) of the first-mentioned ascender. In a modification the connection (26) takes the form of a length of webbing (29) to provide strength under load in combination with a telescopic pole (30) to provide thrust. The addition of foot stirrups (13a,13b) to the respective ascender handles (11a,11b) enables a climber to ascend the rope with a simultaneous walking action of his arms and legs.
