    • A tool assembly (61) for lapping, grinding, honing and polishing seal surfaces (50) on inner diameters of semi-blind cavities (36) in valve bodies (22). The tool (61) can bring seat surfaces (50) up to specification with abrasive wheels (63) having varying grit sizes. The wheels (63) are provided in an array of sizes to form a set of tools (61) for a range of diameters, abrasion and surface finish capacity. This design allows the first (i.e., smallest) tool (61) to enter a cavity (36) in a valve body (22) to begin cutting. The larger size wheels (63) increase the diameter of the cavity (36) being machined until the desired size is achieved. Wheels (63) with finer abrasive are then used to improve the surface finish of the cavity (36) while minimizing the material removal. When the desired diameter and/or surface finish has been achieved, a felt wheel may be used with a fine abrasive paste to provide the cavity (36) with the final surface finish specification.

    • The invention relates to a micro-valve (1) comprising a valve ball (2), a valve seat (3) and a nozzle (14). In said valve, the valve seat (3) comprises a sealing region (5) and an outlet region (6) and guide means (40) are provided on the valve seat. The guide element is configured in the valve seat (3) in the form of a guide region (4) or a one-piece guide element (40) located in the vicinity of the valve seat (3). The micro-valves according to the invention exhibit substantial improvements with respect to dynamics, life cycle and stream pattern. In first embodiments, increased wear-resistance is achieved by the integration of guide means, in the form of a guide region (4), into the valve seat, optimising the dimensions of the transition angle, guide angle and discharge angle. In versions comprising a one-piece guide element (40), wear is reduced by the fact that the ball primarily carries out a sealing function and a guide function to a lesser degree.

    • An injection nozzle (10), for use in a fuel injector for an internal combustion engine, has an inner valve needle (26) which is engageable with an inner valve seating (24, 58) to control fuel delivery through one or more first nozzle outlets (14), and an outer valve (28) which is engageable with an outer valve seating (24, 70) to control fuel delivery through one or more second outlets (16). The outer valve (28) is provided with a valve bore (36) within which at least a part of the inner valve needle (26) is received. Coupling means (46, 48) are provided for coupling movement of the inner valve needle (26) to the outer valve (28) in circumstances in which the inner valve needle (26) is moved away from the inner valve seating (24, 58) through an amount exceeding a predetermined threshold amount (D). This allows the outer valve (28) to be lifted away from the outer valve seating (24, 70) to provide an increased injection rate. If only a reduced injection rate is required the inner valve needle (26) need only be lifted through an amount less than the threshold amount.
