摘要： An image forming apparatus of the present invention is operable in a duplex print mode for printing images on both sides of a recording medium. A toner image is transferred from a first image carrier (1) to a second image carrier (10) and then transferred from the second image carrier to one side of the recording medium. Subsequently, a toner image is transferred from the first image carrier to the other side of the recording medium. After the toner image has been transferred from the first image carrier to the second image carrier, the second image carrier is moved in the reverse direction to a preselected position. The apparatus of the present invention enhances productivity in the duplex print mode. Furthermore, the polarity of the charge of the image carried on said second image carrier (10) is inverted. The second image carrier (10) is a belt with a mechanism to prevent offset.

摘要： The invention relates to a method and controlling means for regulating the lateral position of a band-shaped intermediate image carrier (5) in an electrographic apparatus. The intermediate image carrier (5) is moved in a direction of transport (A) from an image generating position in which an image is generated on said intermediate image to a transfer position in which it transmits information corresponding to the image. A mark (51) is regularly detected on the intermediate image carrier (5) with the aid of a sensor (52) that is fixed to the apparatus. The position of the intermediate image carrier (5) is detected crosswise in relation to the direction of transport (A9) and time correlated with the detection of the mark (51). In-between regular detections of the mark (51), time-controlled intermediate measurements of the position of the intermediate image carrier (5) are carried out. The detected position values of the intermediate image carrier (5) are respectively compared with stored or calculated theoretical position values and the comparison values are used for controlling the position-correction means (1, 4, 6), said means making it possible to change the position of the intermediate image carrier (5) crosswise in relation to the direction of transport (A).

摘要： A method and apparatus is provided for controlling the transverse registration of an image area to be exposed on a longitudinally moving belt (24; Fig.3) by providing belt edge profile data (12), detecting a lateral position of the belt during movement of the belt by measuring the lateral position of the belt edge, and adjusting (22) the traverse location of the image on the belt to compensate for a difference between the detected lateral belt edge position and the belt edge profile data. In addition, a method and apparatus is provided for controlling the lateral position of a longitudinally moving endless belt by generating a steering command signal by calculating a difference between the detected first lateral position of the belt edge and the belt edge profile data corresponding to the first longitudinal position, and adjusting the lateral position of the belt by steering the belt in response to the steering command.

An image is produced on a substrate, that substrate is brought back through the transfer station in a duplex fashion (that is, the substrate is inverted), and a sensor senses the image on the substrate. Beneficially, the sensor senses one or more parameters such as color registration, color occlusion/interference, black separation in color REaD printing, colorimetry, and the overall transfer and fusing process.
