摘要： This invention provides a linear actuator with a cylinder defining a cylinder axis. A piston is movable within the cylinder along the cylinder axis, and a piston rod extends axially from the piston for connection to a mechanism whereby in use, movement of the piston actuates the mechanism. A rotary output mechanism includes a rotary output element extending generally transversely from the cylinder and supported for rotation about an output axis generally normal to the cylinder axis. The rotary output mechanism is responsive to movement of the piston, and the rotary output element is adapted for operative engagement with an instrument mounted to the cylinder such that axial movement of the piston effects a corresponding rotational displacement of the rotary output element, whereby in use the instrument provides an output signal indicative of the position of the piston within the cylinder.

The platform (24) is secured to a number of multistage pistons which comprise a plurality of stages (34, 36) and a single cylinder (32). The advantage of multistage pistons is that the height of th housing only needs to be slightly greater than the length of the longest stage of the extension member. A cable extension transducer (38) is located adjacent to the cylinder (32) and has a flexible cable (40) which extends from a housing. The flexible cable (40) is secured to the end of the first stage (36) of the extensions member in order to accurately measure the overall length of the extension member comprising a plurality of stages (34, 36).

摘要： A sensor (218) mountable within a hydraulic cylinder (200) provides a precision signal indicative of the position of the piston (212) utilizing a non-contacting electromechanical transducer. The sensor includes a flexible connector (216) attached between the cylinder piston and a converting element (220) for sensing the displacement of the cylinder piston. The converting element comprises a pick-up spool (310) coupled to the other end of the connector and rotatable about an axis. The spool is under tension from a spring (317) coupled to the spool. A lead screw (324) engages threads on the interior of the spool, and translates along an axis when the spool rotates. A transducer (323) is disposed to sense the position of the lead screw, and provides an output signal proportional to the motion or position of the movable element. The transducer may be an LVDT or other non-contacting transducer.
