    • Sliding parts by which a sealing function of the sealing faces can be maintained for a long time by actively taking a fluid into sealing faces and discharging the fluid from the sealing faces while meeting contradictory conditions of sealing and lubrication so as to prevent concentration of sediment causative substances on the sealing faces and hence prevent generation of sediment are provided.
      A fluid circulation groove 10 including an inlet section 10a where a fluid comes in from a high pressure fluid side, an outlet section 10b where the fluid goes out to the high pressure fluid side, and a communication section 10c that provides communication between the inlet section and the outlet section is provided in at least one of sealing faces of a pair of sliding parts that slide on each other. The fluid circulation groove 10 is isolated from a low pressure fluid side by a land section R. A section of a bottom wall of the fluid circulation groove 10 is formed in a round bottom shape.

    • An adjustable seal and method for varying a radial distance between the adjustable seal and a rotor of a turbomachine are provided. The adjustable seal may include a first annular member defining a plurality of radial channels, and a second annular member defining a plurality of slots at least partially extending therethrough. The second annular member may be concentric with the first annular member and configured to rotate relative to the first annular member. The adjustable seal may also include a plurality of seal segments interposed between the first annular member and the second annular member. Each seal segment of the plurality of seal segments may be slidably disposed in a respective radial channel of the plurality of radial channels and may have an axial projection slidably disposed in a respective slot of the plurality of slots.
