摘要： Side airbags to provide protection to vehicle occupants are provided. The side airbags include an outer skin forming an inflatable chamber having an upper thorax portion and a lower pelvic portion for contact with the thorax region and the pelvic region, respectively, of the associated vehicle occupant. The side airbag includes a loop diffuser for placement about an inflator disposed within the inflatable chamber. The loop diffuser has opposed first and second open ends to permit communication of inflation gas to the upper thorax portion and to the lower pelvic portion, respectively, of the inflatable chamber. The loop diffuser permits significantly greater flow of inflation gas to the lower pelvic portion as compare to flow of inflation gas to the upper thorax portion of the inflatable chamber. The first open end can be significantly smaller in cross section as compared to the second open end.

摘要： A crash protection system includes a base connectable to a support on an open vehicle or an animal. The base includes a front airbag module arranged proximate a front end of the base and a rear airbag module arranged proximate a rear end of the base. The front airbag module has a front airbag, and the rear airbag module has a rear airbag. The system further includes a belt system having a first belt connectable around a waist of a rider and at least one strap connecting the first belt to the base. A control system includes sensors that are monitored to determine whether a crash situation is present and the control system actuates the front airbag module and the rear airbag module and releases the base from the support when the crash situation is present.

A side airbag 100 includes: an inflator 110; a rear chamber 114 which inflates and deploys at a side part 108 of a seat back 106 and which includes a middle restraining part 122 that protrudes toward the front of a vehicle from the seat back 106 to restrain a part of an occupant 118 and a main part 120 positioned at the rear side of the vehicle than the middle restraining part 122; a sectioning wall 124 which constitutes a front edge and an upper edge of the rear chamber 114 and which has a prescribed width in a vehicle width direction; a front chamber 116 which inflates and deploys into areas toward the front of the vehicle and the upper part of the vehicle from the sectioning wall 124; an upper opening 126 which is formed on the sectioning wall 124 in a rear part of the upper edge of the rear chamber 114; and a lower opening 128 which is formed on the sectioning wall 124 in a lower part of the front edge of the rear chamber 114.

The protection device (14) includes a front portion (62) presented toward the seat (22) and an inflatable volume for receiving a penetrating occupant (20′) when the protection device (14) is in the deployed condition. A rear portion (64) connected to the front portion (62) has an inflatable volume spaced from the front portion (62) by a space (110). The front portion (62) is positioned between the vehicle occupant (20) and the rear portion (64) when the protection device (14) is in the deployed condition. The inflated front portion (62) is movable in a fore-aft direction relative to the rear portion (64) to engage the occupant (20) regardless of the distance between the reaction surface (19, 23, 36) and the occupant (20).
