    • A pressure relief device (100; 200, 300; 400; 400) for an inflatable tire comprises a body (102; 202; 302; 402; 502) having a chamber (124; 228; 324; 424; 524) with an inflation valve arranged in the body. An overpressure valve in the body releases air when the air pressure in the chamber exceeds a predetermined threshold pressure level. The overpressure valve includes at least one air conduit (128; 228; 328; 428; 528) extending from the chamber through the body in order to provide a passage to a surrounding atmosphere. A ring-shaped resilient member (130; 230; 330; 420; 530) is contractively fitted around an outer surface portion of the body, so as to keep the air conduit in a normally closed state. The properties and dimension of the resilient member are such that it is stretched when the air pressure in the chamber exceeds the predetermined pressure level, so as to provide an air passage from the conduit to the surrounding atmosphere. A plurality of pressure relief devices may be included in a kit, wherein the devices define different predetermined pressure levels.

The assembly (10) comprises: a first tire and second tire (12, 14) mounted in a side-by-side dual relationship to an axle (16), the first and the second tire (12, 14) being each mounted respectively to a first rim and a second rim (13, 15) and each of the first and the second tires (12, 14) having a tire cavity (22, 24) bounded by first and second sidewalls (18, 20) extending to a tire tread region (28); a control valve assembly (40) including a control valve housing (46) having an internal air passageway (48), the control valve housing (46) being attached to an elongate valve stem (42) projecting from the rim (13) of the first tire (12), the control valve housing (46) being external to the tire cavity (22), the elongate valve stem (42) projecting outward from a control valve housing cavity and being operative to direct pressurized air into the internal air passageway (48) and into the tire cavity (22) of the first tire (12) and into the tire cavity (24) of the second tire (14), the first sidewall (18) of the first tire (12) having an elongate sidewall air passageway (34) therein; a connecting tube (38) connected to the air passageway (34) and to the control valve housing (46), the connecting tube (38) being operative to direct pressurized air into the control valve housing internal air passageway (48) as the tire rolls over a ground surface; wherein the control valve housing (46) has first and second outlet tubes (62, 64) having internal air passageways operable to selectively conduct pressurized air into the first tire cavity (22) and into the second tire cavity (24) on an as-needed basis.
