摘要： Provided are a long-lived target for a neutron-generating device and a method for manufacturing the target therefor. The target is for a neutron-generating device and includes: a metal substrate retaining a target material; and a metal thin film for sealing that holds the target material at a retention surface X side. The retention surface X side of the metal substrate includes: a frame portion; and an embossed structure including: a plurality of island portions that are surrounded by the frame portion; and the rest recessed portion that is created by decreasing a thickness of a region other than the frame portion and the island portions by a thickness of the target material. The metal thin film and surfaces of the frame portion and the island portions are subjected to hot isostatic pressing (HIP) bonding to seal the target material onto the recessed portion by using the metal thin film.

This barrel portion 6 is enclosed with a sleeve, which is connected by the peripheral regions thereof assigned to the unworked journal portions in a sealing manner to the end faces respectively assigned to it of the unworked journal portions, and delimits a cavity running around the barrel portion 6. The cavity is filled with an alloying powder. Subsequently, the wear-resistant layer 13 that encloses the barrel portion 6 and is connected to it with a material bond is formed from this powder by hot-isostatic pressing. Then, the sleeve is removed from the barrel portion, the unworked journal portions are formed into the journals 7, 8 and the barrel portion 6 and the journals 7, 8 undergo finishing.

摘要： A method of manufacturing an article (32) by hot pressing and ultrasonically inspecting the article (32) comprises forming and filling a canister (80) with powder material and evacuating and sealing the canister (80). Heat and pressure are applied to the canister (80) to consolidate the powder material to form the article (32). The article (32) within the canister (80) is ultrasonically inspected by moving a transducer (124) over the whole of the canister (80). The canister (80) is then removed from the article (32) by machining the canister (80) using a machining tool (148), the movement of the tool (148) is controlled such that at each position of the canister (80) the tool (148) removes the determined thickness of the canister (80) for the corresponding position on the surface of the canister (80).
