    • Processing equipment (13) for cutting or shaping all faces of elongate I-section beams (10), girders, tubes or the like, has a plurality of aligned but spaced apart co-axial holding stations (14) on either side of a central processing station (16). Each holding station has a pair of tapered rollers which are both movable towards and away from one another to accommodate I-beams (10) or other elongate bodies (10) of different cross sections. Each holding station (14) can rotate the beam (10) about the longitudinal axis thereof and can also feed the beam (10) through a brush seal (15) into an enclosed water-jet cutting apparatus (16). After processing within the cutting apparatus (16), the support units (14) drive the beam (10) out to a plurality of output support units (17) at the output end (18) of the processing equipment (13). On completion of operations on the beam (10), it can be discharged through the open jaws of the holding stations (14) onto a plurality of output rails (19) for removal.

    • Provided are a method for splitting longitudinally an end part of a metal plate or a metal rod having a rectangular, polygonal, or elliptical shape, in which the length of incision in the split portion can be freely adjusted and smooth split face can be formed; a metal part manufactured by such method; and a method for bonding such metal part. The present invention is characterized by the process comprising the steps of securing a metal plate by pinching both sides thereof with a clamping device, or securing a metal rod by pinching at least two opposite-facing portions on the periphery thereof with a clamping device; splitting longitudinally by slitting or cleaving the metal plate, or the metal rod, by pressing a slitting punch or a cleaving punch against the face of one end of the metal plate, or the metal rod; and advancing the splitting further by repeating the same operation of pressing the same punch stated above against the cleft of the splitting; and is characterized further in that, in each time of the press-splitting operation, the position of the clamping device on at least one side is moved in advance of the next pressing by a stroke corresponding to the distance from one end of the metal plate, or the metal rod, to the distal end of a split-desired portion.

    • In an apparatus for shearing multi-walled workpieces, such as metal framing studs, a base support (16) defines a blade gap (18) therebetween, and a guillotine-like blade (30) is slidably received within the gap for shearing the workpieces. A pair of first supports (20) are each slidably mounted on a respective base support (16, 18). A pair of second supports (22) are also each slidably mounted on the base support, and are spaced apart from and face the first supports to thereby define an adjustable-width channel (28) therebetween. Each of the supports defines a blade-like edge for engaging an elongated, multi-walled workpiece and the first and second support surfaces are each moved into contact with a respective wall of the workpiece. The supports can be oriented relative to one another such that the axis of the channel, and a longitudinal axis of the workpiece received within the channel can be oriented at a desired angle relative to the blade. The guillotine-like blade is then driven downwardly into engagement with the workpiece to shear the workpiece along a line of contact.

    • A device (2) for cutting structural sections is described. The device (2) comprises a blade (36) and first and second support means. The first support means which may comprise a platen (8) or anvil carries a section to be cut below the blade. The second support means comprises a plurality of support blades (20) movable from a retracted position into a position wherein each is forced against a side of the section. Actuation means (22) is provided which is operable, when a section is held by the second support means, to move the cutting blade (36) along a cutting path in which it cooperates with the support means to remove a portion of the section to thereby cut the section. The support blades (20) are preferably each movable independently of the others. The orientation of the cutting blade (36) and the support blades (20) relative to a section supported on the first support means is suitably adjustable about a vertical axis through the cutting blade (36).
