The invention proposes, in order to provide a substrate plate and appropriate combinations composed of substrate plates and indexable cutting plates, and also to provide appropriate tools which ensure very precise seating of the indexable cutting plate and nevertheless also give better protection of the cutting edges on that side of the cutting insert facing towards the substrate plate, with respect to disadvantageous contact and damage via swarf impact, that the support area (2), has, at a distance from the side areas (3), a plateau (4) arranged parallel to the contact area, and that the upper edges (5) formed on the substrate plate (10) at the transition between the side walls (3) and the support area (2) have a varying distance from the plane of the lower contact area.
