    • A gear mechanism, such as may non-exclusively be used with a scroll centrifuge, sugar mill drive or winch drive, the gear mechanism comprising a housing; and a first gear arrangement comprising: a first annular gear having a first axis about which it is rotatable in the housing; a second annular gear, being rotatable in the housing about the first axis; and a set of planet gears which each engage the first annular gear and the second annular gear. Such a gear mechanism can achieve high ratios and high torques with few components and be of compact size.

    • In a decanter centrifuge having a rotor (1) and a screw conveyor (2) the rotor is suspended only at its one end, the rotational axis (R) of the rotor extending vertically. The inlet (22) of the rotor (1) for a sludge containing liquid to be separated as well as the rotor outlet (12; 67) for liquid having been freed from sludge are situated at the upper end of the rotor, whereas a sludge outlet (13) for separated sludge is situated at the lower end of the rotor. The rotor (1) as well as the screw conveyor (2) are adapted to be driven through shafts (5, 8) situated at the upper end of the rotor. By the invention it becomes possible by simple means to adapt the decanter centrifuge for different separation duties, since the location of the sludge outlet (13) can be chosen freely without other parts of the decanter centrifuge preventing this.

    • A gearing comprising an input shaft (10) and an output shaft (11) coaxially mounted and permanently connected to an input gear (12) and an output gear (13) respectively. The input gear (12) and the output gear (13) cooperate with a number of aux­iliary gear sets (15, 16), with each gear being in engagement with the input gear (12) and output gear (13) respectively, as well as an auxiliary shaft (14) whereon said sets of auxiliary gears (15, 16) are mounted. At least one of the auxiliary gears (15, 16) in each set of auxiliary gears is mounted on the auxiliary shaft (14) by means of a friction clutch (26). The friction clutch ensures an automatic setting of the sets of auxiliary gears in relation to the input gear and the output gear.
