摘要： There is described a system and a process for optimizing and controlling upstream fluid treatment processes using information on fluid characteristics obtained from response variables of a separation device (such as the belt speed or water level of an RBF). This system and process allow for the upstream or downstream treatment processes to be adjusted and optimized against the instantaneous operating conditions of the separation device such that both the pre-treatment and post-treatment processes and the separation system always run at an optimal efficiency. Additionally, since the information obtained from the response variables of the separation device truly reflect the fluid characteristics at the point where the separation system is installed, the same can be used to control a downstream process (for example, the amount of oxygen required in the biological oxidation stage or the sludge retention time in an side stream sludge treatment process such as fermentation or anaerobic digestion).

In particular, several embodiments are directed toward compartmentally expandable rotating belt filters and associated systems and methods. In some embodiments, for example, a filtering system for contaminated fluid includes a first fluid filtering chamber having a first filter belt movably positioned therein and a second fluid filtering chamber having a second filter belt movably positioned therein. The first filter belt can be operable in parallel with the second filter belt. The system can further include a sensor configured to sense a condition related a volume of the contaminated fluid, a speed of flow of the contaminated fluid, or a level of contaminants in the contaminated fluid. A controller can be configured to initiate, stop, or adjust fluid flow to the first fluid filtering chamber and second fluid filtering chamber individually in response to the sensed condition.

摘要： System for separating solids from slurry containing a separable solid in a liquid carrier, such as an industrial waste. The slurry is flowed into a separation chamber positioned over a slower moving foraminous medium to effect cross-flow separation of liquid from the slurry in an initial stage and followed by separation of solids from the slurry in a second stage all the separation being effected employing a single forwardly moving filtration medium. The flow rate of liquid, the rate of travel of the foraminous medium, and the differential pressure across the foraminous medium, as established by the pressure exerted by the flowing liquid on the foraminous medium and the relative pressure underneath the foraminous medium, are controlled at different locations along the length of the separation chamber to provide optimum steady-state separation for a given waste stream.

摘要： An apparatus for extracting liquid from a sludge/conditioning agent mixture which comprises a first endless belt (10) of filter material; a second endless belt (12) of filter material; and rollers (20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 13, 14, 15) for the belts (10, 12). That part of the belt (10) between the rollers (20, 23) is defined as a gravity de-watering zone; the part of the belts (10, 12) between the rollers (21, 13, 14, 15) is defined as a pressure de-watering zone. Filtrate is collected in a tray (17); liquid is collected in a tray (35). Monitoring means monitors a characteristic of the filtrate and the liquid to enable a rate of change in the characteristic of the filtrate/liquid to be determined. The apparatus functions at its optimum at a loading rate for the mixture which is just less than that which causes extrusion of the liquid in the pressure de-watering zone.
