    • A method, as well as a storage and manipulation system for manipulating and transferring cassettes (8) used for storage, which system comprises a rack (3) for storing cassettes, equipped with supports (12) on which the cassette rests and along which the cassette is transferred, as well as a transfer device (1) which is equipped with: a slide (5), onto which the cassette can be transferred and which can be transferred in the horizontal direction and which is provided with a lifting and lowering movement; and grippers (6, 7) with the function of gripping the cassette and moving it onto or off the slide. The slide is also arranged, during the transfer of the cassette into the rack, to lower the front part of the cassette by a lowering movement onto the support of the rack, when the rear part of the cassette is already transferred onto the support of the rack, and to move the cassette further down so that the slide can be moved into the transfer device without restrictions. In an advantageous embodiment, the front part of the cassette is equipped with a roll (10) which, when the cassette is in the rack, is not placed on a support in the rack but is separate from it and whose underside is freely accessible by the slide, wherein the cassette is simultaneously arranged to rest on the support, on a support roll (13) in the rear part of the cassette, and the bottom structure (16) in the front part of the cassette being placed against the support.
