    • The invention relates to a method for producing branched aldehydes, comprising the following steps: (a) providing a culture of one or more fungi of the genus
Conidiobolus and generating biomass containing branched carboxylic acids in a free and/or bonded form; (b) extracting the biomass from step (a) to generate a first intermediate product containing free and/or bonded carboxylic acids; (c) optionally chemically, enzymatically or microbially hydrolysing the bonded carboxylic acids from the first intermediate product; (d) treating the first intermediate product with a chemical-type reducing agent for transforming the free and/or bonded carboxylic acids into the corresponding alcohols, and optionally separating one or more alcohols from disruptive ancillary components and generating the chemically generated second intermediate product containing said alcohols as a mixture or in a concentrated form; (e) treating the first intermediate product with a biological-type reducing agent for transforming the free and/or bonded carboxylic acids into the corresponding aldehydes with the same number of carbon atoms compared to the free and/or bonded carboxylic acids, or into the corresponding aldehydes with a number of carbon atoms reduced by one compared to the free and/or bonded carboxylic acids, and generating the biologically generated second intermediate product containing said aldehydes; (f) treating the chemically generated second intermediate product with a chemical-type oxidising agent for transforming the free and/or bonded alcohols into the corresponding aldehydes; and optionally (g) removing disruptive ancillary components from the fractions obtained according to steps (d) and/or (e) and/or (f).
