摘要： This invention allows super-resolution reproduction with which a better bER value is attainable, when information is recorded by a random pattern including a mark length not longer than a resolution limit, by use of a highly versatile signal decoding method.
Information is recorded as marks and spaces coded by RLL(1,7) modulation, which each of the marks and spaces have one of a plurality of lengths, and 2T marks and 2T spaces of the marks and spaces being formed are shorter than 0.12 µm. An information recording layer (20) includes a reproduction film (21) and a reflective film (22) which are provided in this order from a side from which reproducing light is incident, which reproduction film is made of (i) zinc oxide, (ii) strontium titanate, (iii) titanium oxide, (iv)cerium oxide, or (v) a material including at least one of the (i) through (iv), and which reflective film is made of tantalum or titanium.

摘要： An optical disk of the present invention includes a transparent dielectric film formed on a light incident side of the disk on an opposite side of an optical recording film so as to sandwich the transparent substrate therebetween, for suppressing bimetallic effects caused by a difference in thermal expansion between an optical recording film formed on an optical recording surface and the transparent substrate, whereby changes in tilt against temperature changes can be suppressed. Further, by an optimal selection of a reflectance of the transparent dielectric film, unwanted reflection due to multi-interference can be reduced at the same time.

摘要： A super-resolution magneto-optical recording medium has a reproducing layer, an in-plane magnetization layer and a recording layer. The reproducing layer and the recording layer are magnetostatically coupled, and each of the layers is made of a rare-earth transition-metal alloy which has a greater transition-metal sublattice moment than the compensation composition, and exhibits perpendicular magnetization, if it exists alone. At a temperature not more than the Curie temperature, the in-plane magnetization layer is exchange-coupled with the reproducing layer so as to allow the reproducing layer to exhibit in-plane magnetization. Since the reproducing layer is allowed to exhibit in-plane magnetization by the in-plane magnetization layer, it is not necessary to use a material containing a greater rare-earth metal sublattice moment as the reproducing layer. Therefore, at portions in the in-plane magnetization layer having temperatures higher than the Curie temperature, the directions of the transition-metal sublattice moments of the reproducing layer and the recording layer are aligned in parallel with each other. Thus, the reproducing polarity of this medium becomes the same as the polarity of a magneto-optical recording medium without a reproducing layer, thereby allowing compatibility with each other.

摘要： A magneto-optical recording and reproducing device is provided with a magneto-optical disk (201) for reproducing recorded information using light, a semiconductor laser (101), an objective lens (105) for converging a light beam emitted from the semiconductor laser onto the magneto-optical disk and a light interrupting member (120) for interrupting a portion of a light beam before it is incident on the objective lens. The magneto-optical disk is composed of a readout layer which is predominant in in-plane magnetization, and in which a transition occurs to be predominant in perpendicular magnetization as temperature thereof is raised and a recording layer for recording thereon information using a perpendicular magnetization. In this arrangement, since the light interrupting member is provided, a light spot can be made smaller, thereby improving a recording density. Moreover, even when temperature of the readout layer is raised due to a side lobe generated by the light interrupting member, in-plane magnetization is maintained in the readout layer. Thus, interference by unwanted reproducing signals due to the side lobe can be prevented, thereby improving a reproducing signal quality.

摘要： On an optical disk, information is recorded on both grooves and lands as guide tracks for guiding a light beam. The width of each groove and that of each land are set substantially equal to each other. A plurality of series of pits representing address information are formed in the grooves so that the series of pits in a groove and the series of pits in the adjacent grooves are located in different radial directions of the optical disk. Address pits are not formed in any of the tracks formed by the lands. When the light beam scans the track on the land, the address information is obtained by crosstalk of the series of address pits formed in the track on the groove. This structure enables the management of the addresses of tracks having thereon no address pits. When obtaining the address information by reproducing the series of address pits on the groove, since no crosstalk occurs, accurate address information is obtained.
