    • A simple method of evaluating an optical information medium, which judges quantitatively and reproducibly whether the surface of an optical information medium is acceptable or not by using a novel artificial finger-print liquid that is an evaluating dispersion liquid. A method of evaluating an optical information medium comprising the steps of depositing on the surface, on the recording/reproducing beam incident side, of an optical information medium an evaluating dispersion liquid containing a fine-particle-like material and a dispersion medium capable of dispersing the fine-particle-like material under a specific condition, measuring an area ratio that an evaluating dispersion liquid droplet deposited per unit area of the surface accounts for, and judging it to be acceptable when the measured area ratio is up to 6%. A method of evaluating an optical information medium comprising the steps of depositing on the surface, on the recording/reproducing beam incident side, of an optical information medium the above evaluating dispersion liquid under a specific condition, measuring recording/reproducing characteristics (e.g., error rate) with the an evaluating dispersion droplet kept deposited on the surface, and judging it to be acceptable if the measured recording/reproducing characteristics are equal to or better than a specified value.

    • To provide a method of testing an information recording medium (10) based on the effects of fingerprints attached to an incident surface (13a) on the signal characteristics. A step (S12) of attaching an artificial fingerprint to an incident surface (13a) of an information recording medium (10), a step (S13) of reproducing a signal recorded in an attached region to which the artificial fingerprint has been attached, and a step (S14) of judging whether the information recording medium (10) is defective or non-defective based on a signal quality of the reproduced signal are carried out. By doing so, the information recording medium (10) for which the signal quality of the reproduced signal remarkably deteriorates due to fingerprints adhering to the incident surface (13a) can be rejected as substandard, and the distribution of such information recording medium (10) onto the market can be avoided. As a result, it is possible to sufficiently ensure the reliability of the information recording medium (10) that is to be used as bare discs in particular.
