    • An information recording medium and information reproducing apparatus by which information reproducing and tracking control can be made by the utilization of nearfield' light. On an information recording medium 3, a servo pattern zone is provided forming servo bits for tracking control. In this servo pattern zone, alternately arranged as servo both on a read-out track are a first groove having a depth constantly or gradually increasing in one direction perpendicular to bit a direction of the read-out track of a reproducing probe 1 and a depth direction of the medium and a second groove made reverse in depth increasing direction to the first groove. By making incident the near-field light 5 produced in a microscopic aperture 2 of the reproducing probe 1 on the servo pattern zone, it is possible to obtain a tracking detection signal that has a waveform different depending on a deviation from a center axis of the read-out track. According to the tracking detection signal, the reproducing probe 1 is controlled in position.

    • There is provided an information recording medium and an information reproducing apparatus capable of carrying out information reproduction and tracking control by utilizing near-field light. A data bit 12 of a convex having a section orthogonal to a tracking direction in a triangular shape is formed on an information recording medium 3 as an information unit, by scattering near-field light formed at a reproducing probe 1 at inclined faces of the data bit 12 with directionalities, fluxes of reflected and scattered light thereby are detected by reproduced light detectors 6 and 7 arranged symmetrically in a left and right direction relative to a central axis of the reproducing probe 1 along the tracking direction, a differential signal between the detected signals is outputted by a difference circuit 20 and an actuator 22 is driven by the differential signal via a tracking signal forming circuit 21 and a position of the reproducing probe 1 is controlled to carry out the tracking control.

    • There is provided a near-field optical head promoting reliability of a head by improving mechanical strength thereof. An edge portion 23 of a head front end portion 22 is constituted by a side 26 where a bottom face 24 and a side face 25 of the head intersect with each other. The bottom face 24 and the side face 25 intersect with each other substantially orthogonally. When the edge portion 23 is viewed microscopically (nm level), the edge portion 23 is provided with a curved face. A radius of curvature Rt thereof corresponds with a reproducible bit size and the smaller (the sharper) of the radius of curvature Rt, the higher density recording can be carried out. The edge portion 23 can be fabricated at an angle determined by crystal faces when the edge portion 23 is formed by using anisotropic etching of Si.
