    • An optical pickup device employing a signal detection unit including a hologram element (10) having a plurality of pattern regions for diffracting and/or focusing light reflected and incident from a recording medium, a photodetector (30) having a plurality of light receiving regions for receiving and photoelectrically converting the light diffracted by the hologram element and a signal operation unit (50) for generating a focus error signal and/or a track error signal from a signal detected from the photodetector (30). The optical pickup device can implement a stable servo operation even at deviations of the photodetector, a change in the wavelength of light emitted from the light source, and/or shift of focusing means such as an objective lens, and can record and/or reproduce high-density information on/from the recording medium.

    • A multilevel interconnection between a polycide layer and a polysilicon layer and a method of forming such an interconnection are provided. The multilevel interconnection comprises: a first impurity-containing conductive layer (13) formed on a semiconductor substrate (10); a first silicide layer (14), of which a first region is thinner than a second region, formed on the first impurity-containing conductive layer (13); an interlayer dielectric layer (16) formed over the second region and not over the first region; a contact hole (1) for exposing the first silicide layer (14) in the first region; and a second impurity-containing conductive layer (19) connected to the first silicide layer (14) through the contact hole. Alternatively, all the first silicide layer (14) is removed in the first region and the second impurity-containing layer (19) contacts the first impurity-containing layer (13) directly through the contact hole (1). The increase of a contact resistance between conductive layers can be prevented with this arrangement.

    • An optical pickup for high-density recording/reproducing, which can read closely packed recorded information which exceeds the limits normally associated with a given cut-off frequency, the pickup including an objective lens (18, 18') having divided portions (20-22, 20'-22') for respectively transmitting a zero-order optical component and ±1st-order diffracted components. To detect a signal for reproduction, a focusing lens (28) is used for focusing the zero-order component and ±1st-order diffracted components passing through the objective lens (18, 18') so as to be mutually interfered. Stable high-density optical recording/reproduction can be realized regardless of the numerical aperture of the objective lens (18, 18') and optical wavelength.
