    • A backlight unit (300a) and a liquid crystal display apparatus (100a) including the backlight unit (300a) are provided. The backlight unit (300a) includes a plurality of light-emitting diodes or LEDs (313a) configured to emit blue light, a fluorescent member (330a) configured to convert the blue light into white light including red, green and blue wavelength components (tricolor light) and to emit the tricolor light towards a liquid crystal panel (600a) to be backlit, and a filter (350a) disposed between the fluorescent member (330a) and the plurality of LEDs (313a), wherein the filter (350a) is configured to transmit a first wavelength range, corresponding to the blue light emitted by the plurality of LEDs (313a), and to reflect a second wavelength range that includes red and green light components generated within the fluorescent member (330a) by conversion of blue light, such that the amount of red and green light components emitted by the fluorescent member (330a) towards the plurality of LEDs (313a) is reflected by the filter (350a) in the direction of the liquid crystal display panel (600a). The fluorescent member (330a) is a quantum dot member.

    • Provided is a many-sided reflection prism (20) formed as a single body with a plurality of reflection faces (23,25,27,29) which guides a light beam incident through a transmission face in a horizontal direction (ho) perpendicular to a height direction (hi) by reducing a size of the light beam in the height direction by using a difference in angles between the reflection faces (25,27) and reflects the guided light beam in the height direction by one reflection face (29) of an angle less than 45° with respect to the horizontal direction. By using the many-sided reflection prism, the height of an optical system can be reduced regardless of the wavelength used without reducing light beam size, and slim-sized optical pickups can be implemented.
