    • An assisting apparatus for using power from a rotating member 290 to assist the operation of a bicycle transmission includes a mounting unit; a input transmission member coupled to the mounting unit, wherein the input transmission member moves to at least a neutral position, to an upshift position and to a downshift position; and an output transmission member coupled to the mounting unit, wherein the output transmission member moves to at least a first output position and a second output position. A rotating member engaging member 394 moves between a rotating member engaging position and a rotating member disengaging position, and a motion transmitting mechanism transmits motion form the rotating member engaging member 394 to the output transmission member. A switching mechanism moves the rotating member engaging member 394 to the rotating member engaging position when the input transmission member is in a least one of the upshift position and the downshift position.
      A power saving apparatus is provided for the assisting apparatus that uses power from a rotating member 290 to assist the operation of the bicycle transmission. The power saving apparatus comprises the rotating member engaging member 394 that moves between a rotating member engaging position and a rotating member disengaging position, a setting mechanism 407' that sets the rotating member engaging member 394 toward the rotating member engaging position, and a power saving unit 1300. The power saving unit 1300 saves power communicated between the setting mechanism 407' and the rotating member engaging member 394 when the setting mechanism 407' attempts to move the rotating member engaging member 394 into the rotating member engaging position and the rotating member engaging member encounters a force that resists the rotating member engaging member 394 being in the rotating member engaging position.

    • An internal bicycle shifter hub 10 is a hub capable of switching among gear ratios on the basis of centrifugal force, comprising a hub axle 21, a driver 22, a slave 23, a planetary gear mechanism 24, a clutch mechanism 25, and a clutch-switching mechanism 26. The slave has a hub shell 60 capable of rotating about the hub axle. The planetary gear mechanism is disposed between the driver and the slave and is designed to change the speed of rotation of the driver and to transmit the result to the slave. The clutch mechanism links or disengages the driver and the slave. The clutch-switching mechanism has weight members 77 that swing about one end thereof, a control plate 75 capable of moving in a circle between a linked position in which the clutch mechanism is in a linked state and a disengaged position in which the mechanism is in a disengaged state, and links 78 for rotating the control member in response to the movement of the other end of the rocking weight members.
