    • The present disclosure relates to a method for obtaining a correct placement of an in-ear communication device, such as a hearing aid, in the ear canal of a user, where the method comprises the steps of providing an in-ear communication device comprising a probe sound generator configured to emit a probe sound from the device into the ear canal, where the level of the probe sound can be adjusted by the user and providing a vocalization sound generator. In a first stage: (i) placing the in-ear communication device in the ear canal thereby forming a substantial acoustic seal in the soft part of the ear canal; (ii) by means of said vocalization sound generator generate a vocalization sound; (iii) emitting a probe sound from the device into the cavity of the ear canal formed between the device and the ear drum, the probe sound having a level that makes it audible in the presence of the vocalization sound; (iv) the user adjusting the level of the probe sound such that it is just below the masking threshold of the vocalization sound. In a second stage: (v) reducing the level of the probe sound below the masking threshold determined in the first stage; (vi) by means of said vocalization sound generator generate substantially the same vocalization sound as in the first stage; (vii) gradually inserting the device deeper into the ear canal in the direction towards the ear drum, until a position in which the probe tone is no longer masked by the vocalization sound, i.e. where the probe sound becomes audible in the presence of the vocalization sound; and (viii) maintaining the device in this position in the ear canal, this position being the correct position of the device in the ear canal. The disclosure further related to in-ear devices configured to be used in the method according to the disclosure.

    • According to an aspect, a hearing device adapted to be worn at an ear of a user for in-situ monitoring of a middle ear of the user is disclosed. The hearing device includes a receiver adapted to direct an incident electrical acoustic signal of a predetermined level and a predetermined frequency toward a tympanic membrane of the user; a measurement microphone adapted to covert a reflected sound signal that is reflected from the tympanic membrane in response to the incident electrical acoustic signal to a reflected electrical acoustic signal; a comparator adapted to calculate a level difference between the predetermined level and a reflected level of the reflected electrical acoustic signal; and a notification generator adapted to generate an indicator signal representative of status of the middle ear of the user if the level difference is equal or more than a predetermined threshold level.
