    • Mechanism for a lock bolt assembly of the kind including a housing (1), a bolt (5) mounted on the housing for movement into and out of a strike engaging position, an actuator (11) rotatably mounted on the housing, and a drive connection between the actuator (11) and the bolt (5) whereby operation of the actuator causes movement of the bolt. The drive connection includes an override clutch (12) which can be caused to adopt either an engaged condition or a disengaged condition by operation of a key operated lock (13). In the engaged condition the actuator (11) is drivably connected to the bolt (5), whereas in the disengaged condition that connection is broken. The clutch (12) operates to resist rotation of the actuator (11) when in the disengaged condition, but that resistance can be overcome by forced operation of the actuator (11) after which the actuator can be rotated freely relative to other parts of the mechanism.

    • A padlock of the kind having a body (2) and a U-shaped shackle (6) which projects above an upper end surface (4) of the body (2). The shackle (6) has a captured leg (8) which is retained against separation from the body (2) but which can move relative to the body (2) to allow the shackle (6) to adopt a locked or a released condition. Another leg (7) of the shackle (6) has an end portion which is located within the body (2) and is clear of the body (2) respectively in the locked and released conditions of the padlock. A shroud (3) is formed integral with the body (2) and extends upwards from the body upper end surface (4) so as to completely protect the front of the shackle (6) under both the locked and released conditions. The shroud (3) has a rearwardly opening cavity (5) which substantially contains the shackle (6) when in the locked condition so that the shackle (6) is exposed only at the rear (12) of the padlock. The rear (12) of the padlock is substantially flat, whereas the front (14) has a convex curvature.

    • A deadbolt assembly of the kind in which a deadbolt (l0 ) is mounted on a housing (l) for linear movement between an operative position in which deadbolt parts (ll,l2) extend across recesses (5,6) in the housing (l) to trap strike bars in the recesses (5,6) and an inoperative position in which the strike bars are not trapped. At least one actuator, such as turn knob (l3) is rotatably mounted on the housing (l) and is drivably connected to the deadbolt (l0) through a drive plate (l5) which rotates in response to operation of the actuator (l3). A drive pin (l6) is secured to the plate (l5) at a position radially outwards of the rotational axis of the plate (l5). The pin (l6) locates within a non-circular hole (30) provided in a carrier plate (24) forming part of the deadbolt (l0) and reacts against edges (32,33) of the hole (30) to cause the deadbolt movement. The pin (l6) moves along an arcuate path (20) in the plate (l5) between each of its two extreme positions (22,23), and at each of those positions the pin (l6) lies on a straight line which extends substantially parallel to the direction of movement of the deadbolt (l0) and which substantially intersects the rotational axis of the plate (l5). Both the deadbolt and the strike can be made from steel or other strong metal.
