摘要： A method of numbering data packets in a packet-switched telecommunications system which utilizes acknowledged transmission and the telecommunications protocol of which comprises a convergence protocol layer for converting user data packets into convergence protocol packets, and a link layer for transmitting convergence protocol packets as data units and for acknowledging the transmission. A data packet number is defined for the convergence protocol packets to be sent by a counter and the convergence protocol packets to be sent are transmitted to the link layer for transmission without the data packet number. A data packet number is also defined for received convergence protocol packets by means of the counter and an acknowledgement of received convergence protocol packets is transmitted to the transmitter.

The GGSN receives data packets from the external communication system in a first plurality of data flows which it maps to a second plurality of data flows in the mobile communications system. There are at least two PDP contexts (PDP1-PDP9) available in the packet-switched network (NW), which have at least partly different data transfer properties, whereby the PDP contexts (PDP1-PDP9) can provide at least partly different qualities of service for the transfer of information. The method is characterised in that when the quality of service specified for the application connection changes, it is examined on the basis of the properties of the PDP context (PDP1-PDP9) available in the packet-switched network (NW) which of the PDP contexts (PDP1-PDP9) is suitable for use by the application connection with the changed quality of service, and the one of the PDP contexts (PDP1-PDP9), the data transfer properties of which are the closest to the changed quality of service is selected for the application connection.
