    • A multiple-conductor electrical connector (32) for mounting on a printed circuit board which includes two rows of staggered insertion holes. The connector includes a housing (34) having an elongate cavity (40). A contact strip is formed with a continuous carrier and laterally extending contacts (36) gang-mountable in the elongate cavity of the housing. Each contact (36) includes a conductor receptacle positionable in the cavity, and a pair of laterally spaced terminal tails (56a,56b) projecting through the housing (34) from the cavity (40). The terminal tails (56a,56b) are independently severable whereby a terminal tail of any contact can be inserted into a hole in either row of staggered insertion holes in the printed circuit board. The contact receptacle is formed by an anvil portion (58) and a spring finger portion. The terminal tails (56a,56b) are stamped and formed out of the anvil portion (58) and/or the spring finger portion of the contact (36).

    • The structure (10) is provided for direct cable (36) (see Fig. 5) to circuit board (28) connections. The structure (10) is securely mountable to the circuit board (28) by means of pegs (20) and includes a cable receiving aperture (34) extending therein and characterized by a deflectable strain relief engagement for engaging the insulation (40) on the cable (36) and providing necessary strain relief. The aperture (34) is constructed to alternatively permit first and second depths of cable insertion (seen in Figs. 6 and 7 respectively), each of which permits engagement of the strain relief structure (60, 62) with the cable. The first depth of insertion (seen in Fig. 6) substantially encloses the exposed conductors (38) of the cable to prevent damage during shipment and storage. The second depth of insertion (seen in Fig. 7) enables electrical connection between the cable conductors (38) and conductive areas on the circuit board (28).

    • An electrical connector assembly for connecting an insulated wire conductor (12) to another circuit member (14). The connector assembly includes a housing having a terminal receiving cavity (24a) therein, a terminal (40) mounted in the cavity having an insulation displacement slot for receiving a wire conductor therein, and means (56) for holding and locating a wire conductor in alignment over the slot of the terminal prior to connection thereto. Movement of the wire conductor laterally of its longitudinal axis into the slot causes displacement of the insulation so that the terminal electrically contacts the conductor. The holding and locating means comprises an upwardly facing, U-shaped clamp member (56) having a wire receiving area defined between two resilient legs (60). The clamp member is mounted for movement into the cavity with the wire conductor from an initial position wherein the wire conductor is positioned over the terminal slot downwardly into the cavity to a final position wherein the wire conductor is terminated. The legs position the wire conductor and the wire receiving area in the initial position and exert an inward lateral force against the insulated wire conductor when the clamp member is moved to the final position.
