    • A power plant (9) configured to include a recirculation loop (10) about which a working fluid is recirculated, the recirculation loop (10) comprising a plurality of components configured to accept an outflow of working fluid from a neighboring upstream component and provide an inflow of working fluid to a neighboring downstream component. The recirculation loop (10) may include: a recirculation compressor (12); an upstream combustor (22); a high-pressure turbine (30); a downstream combustor (24); a low-pressure turbine (32); and a recirculation conduit (40) configured to direct the outflow of working fluid from the low-pressure turbine (32) to the recirculation compressor (12). The power plant may include: an oxidant compressor (11) configured to provide compressed oxidant to both the upstream combustor (22) and the downstream combustor (24); and means for extracting a portion of the working fluid from an extraction point (51,75,76) disposed on the recirculation loop (10).

    • A method of controlling a power plant (9) that includes a working fluid and a recirculation loop (10), wherein the power plant (9) includes a combustion system having an upstream combustor (22) operably connected to a high-pressure turbine (30) and a downstream combustor (24) operably connected to a low-pressure turbine (32). The method may include the steps of: recirculating the working fluid through the recirculation loop (10); controlling a compressed oxidant amount supplied to each of the upstream combustor (22) and the downstream combustor (24); controlling a fuel amount supplied to each of the upstream combustor (22) and the downstream combustor (24); controlling the power plant (9) such that each of the upstream combustor (22) and the downstream combustor (24) periodically operates at a preferred stoichiometric ratio; and selectively extracting the working fluid from a first extraction point (75) associated with the upstream combustor (22) and a second extraction point (76) associated with the downstream combustor (24) based upon which of the upstream and the downstream combustors (22,24) operates at the preferred stoichiometric ratio.

    • At least one main air compressor (12) makes a compressed ambient gas flow (26). The compressed ambient gas flow (26) is delivered to a turbine combustor (32) at a pressure that is greater than or substantially equal to an output pressure delivered to the turbine combustor (32) from a turbine compressor (30) as at least a first portion of a recirculated gas flow (50). A fuel stream (28) is delivered to the turbine combustor (32), and a combustible mixture is formed and burned, forming the recirculated gas flow (50). A turbine power is produced that is substantially equal to at least a power required to rotate the turbine compressor (30). At least a portion of the recirculated gas flow (50) is recirculated through a recirculation loop (52). An excess portion of the recirculated gas flow (50) is vented or a portion of the turbine compressor exhaust (44) bypasses the turbine combustor (32) or both.
