    • Work head unit 17 detects the rotational position of suction nozzle 42 with first Q-axis encoder 73 positioned facing component holding section 55 (suction nozzle 42) holding component P. Thus, because the orientation of the portion holding the component is detected, compared to, for example, an item that detects the rotational position of suction nozzle 42 with encoder 64 of Q-axis motor 63, information better reflecting the orientation of the component P is acquired. With mounting head unit 17, it is desirable to detect the orientation of component holding section 55 at two locations, suction nozzle 42 and syringe member 56. By doing this it is possible to detect the state (for example, deformation) of syringe section 56, or the deviation between syringe member 56 and suction nozzle 42.

According to the invention, production efficiency of a board can be improved by an invalid suction operation being not performed on a cavity section which does not hold the component.

    • Provided is a component mounting device in which shortening of a mounting time from the supply of a component to the mounting of the component on an object via imaging by an imaging device is possible. A component mounting machine moves a mounting head from a supply position P1 to each of mounting positions P3 and P4 of a circuit board CB via an imaging position P2. Further, the component mounting machine performs control such that the mounting head moves in a direction of movement at the time of imaging that is either of an X-axis direction or a Y-axis direction when passing through the imaging position P2. The component mounting machine determines the direction of movement at the time of imaging, according to a first X-axis distance Lx and a first Y-axis distance Ly from the imaging position P2 to each of the mounting positions P3 and P4.
