    • The invention relates to a heating/cooling device for carrying out a heating/cooling programme for at least one sample, in particular a PCR sample, comprising: at least one heating/cooling block which is constructed for receiving the at least one sample, at least one heating/cooling unit which is arranged for heating/cooling the at least one heating/cooling block, at least one temperature measuring unit which is assigned to this heating/cooling unit, at least one control circuit for controlling a temperature, to which control circuit are assigned at least one heating/cooling unit and at least one temperature measuring unit assigned to this at least one heating/cooling unit, at least one control unit which is constructed for controlling the heating/cooling of the at least one heating/cooling block, wherein the heating/cooling device comprises at least two temperature measuring units which are assigned to at least one control circuit, and a test unit for carrying out a test method is assigned to the heating/cooling device, wherein this test unit has a signal connection to at least one of these at least two temperature measuring units, and so by means of this signal connection, at least one test quantity of the heating/cooling device can be determined, which test value characterizes the operating state of the heating/cooling device. The invention additionally relates to a method for testing a heating/cooling device, wherein the method comprises the following steps: starting the method; operating at least this first heating/cooling unit for the period of at least one first time section from at least one first time; detecting at least one measurement temperature from this at least one first temperature measuring unit assigned to this first heating/cooling unit at least at a second time; determining at least one first test quantity of the heating/cooling device using this at least one measurement temperature; and comparing this first test quantity with a reference quantity.
