    • A hand-held, motorized depilating device, introducing a novel mechanical design to provide improved depilating coverage and hair plucking efficiency, without requiring the user to pass the device over the same given skin area numerous times. The hair-plucking assembly is rotatable about a shaft and includes at least two disc assemblies, each comprising a pair of complementary discs, mounted on a hub, and having radially extending arms which terminate in a flattened peripheral portion, which when pressed against a corresponding portion forms a trap for the hair. At least one of the radially extending arms is bent, so that the associated hair trap lies in a different predetermined plane than the other hair-traps associated with that disc assembly. This staggered arrangement results in improved depilating coverage. In another embodiment, the hub's edge has formed thereon a pinch plate, disposed in between the complementary discs, thereby doubling the number of hair-traps, and greatly increasing depilating efficiency.

    • The quick-disconnect hose coupling (10) comprises a hose connector element (18) having a ball valve (30) de­signed with positive interlocking means for retention of a male coupling half(20) in a female receptacle (40) formed therein. The ball valve (30) is enclosed in a housing (12) and is arranged to be pivotable therein about an axis (39), such that the male coupling half (20) communicates with a bore hole (44) in the other end of the ball valve (30). Pivoting movement of the ball valve (30) provides a flow connection by bringing the bore hole (44) into communica­tion with the hose connector element (18) retained in the other end of the housing (12), while interlocking pins (56) con­tained in the ball valve (30) mechanically engage the male coupling (20) half in the receptacle (40). In one embodi­ment, a releasable latch (64) engages a contoured slot (66) in the housing (12) for providing positively defined valve operating positions, such that the mechanical connection is completed prior to and separate from the flow connec­tion. In another embodiment, the latch (64) is provided by a pair of beads (82) each of which is seated within one of a pair of apertures (84) formed on opposite sides of the ball valve walls. Each latching bead (82) is retained against a notched fastener (85) on a respective side of the ball valve (30). A movable locking sleeve (88) disposed within the ball valve (30) blocks the latching beads (82) from inward movement in the apertures (84), thus preven­ting ball valve (30) rotation. Upon depression of the male coupling half (20) in the locking sleeve (88), the block­age is removed and the valve (30) may be rotated, relea­sing the interlocking pins and allowing removal of the male coupling half (20). The novel design offers increased safety and simplicity of operation.

    • The motor-powered depilatory device (10) for removing skin hair is provided in a compact, efficient, hand-held unit, based on the operation of an axially rotatable hair-plucking element (30) provided as a plurality of discs (36) adjacently coupled in column form. By provision of a central spine comprising a pre-tensioned spring (41), the discs (36 ) are maintained adjacent one another under tension, while the column is bendable. When rotated axially at one end, the hair-plucking element (30) transfers the rotation via rotational coupling of the adjacent discs (36) in the column. Thus, even if the column is bent in an arched configuration, the rotational motion is transferred across its entire length. Preferably, the rotationally-coupled discs (36) are made of relatively rigid plastic material, and are mechanically coupled by a set of tab-­like projections (38) on each disc surface, which engage matching recesses in adjacent discs (36). Alternatively, adjacent discs (36) are made of a soft material with a high friction coefficient and are rotationally coupled by friction between them. The arched configuration of the hair-plucking element (30) provides spaces (42) between adjacent discs (36) on a convex side, and hair trapped in these spaces (42) is plucked when they close upon rotation of the hair-plucking element (30) toward its concave side.

    • A hair depilating device having a plucking assembly (12) comprising at least two hubs (34a), each accomodating at least one radially-extending swivel element (38a) mounted on the hub via a pin (35) radially extending from the wall of the hub. The sidewall of the hub further includes a pinch plate (39a), which projects radially outwardly therefrom. The radially-extending swivel element and pinch plate of a neighboring disc-like assembly define a V-shaped hair trap. The other side of the pinch plate forms a second V-shaped hair trap with a radial extension swivel element of a third opposing neighboring disc-like assembly. The opposing edges of the hair-traps at the rear end meet first, and only afterwards is the entire trap closed. This design provides a substantially reduced rotational closure distance, traveled by the hair-trap elements from the instant the trap begins to close until full trap closure. The trap closing displacement required for closure is also greatly reduced and more hairs are trapped and the plucking efficiency increased.
