    • An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member capable of carrying an electrostatic image; a developing device configured to develop an electrostatic image formed on the image bearing member into a toner image, using a developer including toner and carrier; an exchangeable supply container configured to supply the developer into the developing device; a content sensor capable of detecting information relating to a toner content in the developing device; an exchange detecting portion configured to detect information for discriminating an event of exchanging operation of the supply container; and a controller configured to control a supplying operation from the supply container, on the basis of a detection result of the content sensor, wherein the controller is capable of prohibiting an image forming operation on the basis of the detection result of the content sensor and is capable of releasing the prohibition of the image forming operation on the basis of the detection result of the exchange sensor, and wherein after releasing the prohibition of the image forming operation on the basis of the detection result of the exchange sensor, the controller continues permission of the image forming operation irrespective of the detection result of the content sensor when the information relating to a toner consumption amount cumulated every image formations indicates a amount less than a predetermined amount, and when the toner consumption amount after the release of the prohibition of the image forming operation reaches the predetermined amount, the controller determines whether to prohibit the image forming operation on the basis of the detection result of the content sensor after the toner consumption amount reaches the predetermined amount.

    • An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member configured to carry an image; a developing device configured to develop a latent image formed by exposing the image bearing member electrically charged to light, with a developer including toner and carrier; a sensor configured to detect information relating to an amount of magnetization of the developer per unit volume in the developing device; and a controller configured to control an image forming condition so as to change, on the basis of a detection result of the sensor, a development contrast which is a potential difference between an image portion potential of a maximum image density in the latent image and a development DC bias potential applied to the developing device, wherein the controller controls the image forming condition on the basis of the detection result of the sensor such that when the amount of magnetization of the developer per unit volume in the developing device is a first predetermined value, the development contrast is smaller than that when the amount is a second predetermined value which is larger than the first predetermined value.
