摘要： A microwave vessel system for external and noninvasive pressure monitoring and control is disclosed. The system comprises a reaction vessel (21) formed of a material that is transparent to microwave radiation, with the reaction vessel (21) including a portion that is movable (22) under pressure generated by a chemical reaction inside the vessel while maintaining the reaction sealed inside the vessel. A sensor (30) is adjacent to the movable portion (22) of the vessel (21) for detecting the motion of the movable portion as the portion responds to pressure generated inside the vessel. The system includes means for maintaining the sensor (30) against the movable portion while microwaves are applied to the vessel (21) so that the movement of the movable portion (22) under pressure is detected by the sensor (30).

The vessel system includes a pressure resistant vessel that is otherwise transparent to microwave radiation, a pressure-resistant closure for the mouth of the vessel, with portions of the closure including a pressure resistant synthetic membrane, a pressure transducer external to the vessel, and a tube extending from the transducer, through the membrane and into the vessel for permitting the pressure inside the vessel to be applied against the transducer while the closure and membrane otherwise maintain the pressure resistant characteristics of the vessel.

摘要： A self venting sealable vessel system for microwave assisted chemistry is disclosed. The system includes a vessel (11) formed of a microwave-transparent material, one end of which forms an opening for placing materials inside the vessel, a lid (13) for being seated against the opening, a flexible frame (14) surrounding the vessel (11) and lid (13) and formed of a microwave-transparent material, and means for urging the frame (14) against the vessel and seated lid with a predetermined force to seal the vessel at low pressures and so that the frame refrains from flexing until the pressure inside the vessel exceeds the predetermined force, after which the frame flexes sufficiently to allow the lid (13) to unseat and gases to vent safely from the vessel without rupturing the vessel (11) or the frame (14).

摘要： A controlled-flow microwave instrument is disclosed for chemical synthesis that includes heterogeneous or highly viscous materials. The instrument includes a fluid reservoir for supplying or receiving fluids, a fluid pump in fluid communication with the reservoir for pumping fluids to or from the reservoir, a microwave transparent reaction vessel in fluid communication with the pump for supplying or receiving fluids to or from the pump and the reservoir, a pressure sensor in fluid communication with the reservoir and the vessel for measuring the pressure of fluids in the instrument at the sensor, and a processor in signal communication with the pressure sensor and the pump for controlling the pump and the flow of fluids in the instrument based at least in part on the pressure measured at the sensor. The instrument also includes a magnetic stirrer bar inside the vessel for agitating reactants in the vessel during exposure to microwave radiation, a first rotating magnet positioned external to and adjacent the cavity to minimize any interaction between the magnetic field of the magnet and microwave propagation in the cavity, and a second rotating magnet inside the cavity for being driven by the first rotating magnet and for driving the rotation of the stirrer bar in the reaction vessel.

摘要： An instrument is disclosed for carrying out controlled microwave assisted chemical processes, and that is particularly useful for handling relatively small samples. The instrument includes a microwave-transparent reaction vessel with an open mouth, a pressure-resistant seal on the mouth of the vessel, and a needle, portions of which penetrate the seal with a first end of the needle and provide fluid communication into the vessel. A pressure transducer is at the opposite end of the needle and in fluid communication with the interior of the vessel through the needle. The instrument defines a pressure control flow path from a portion of the needle outside of the vessel to a fluid port, the flow path being in communication with the needle, the interior of the vessel and the transducer. A controllable pressure release valve for the flow path is- associated with the port.
