    • A sheet package (9) is accommodated in a printing apparatus (1). When a cover portion (10) is closed, a pressing plate (18) presses a second flat surface portion (50) of the sheet package (9), so that a lowermost sheet is pressed against a pickup roller (12). A reflective optical sensor (80) provided in the printing apparatus (1) faces a second cut-out portion (53) formed in the second flat surface portion (50) of the sheet package (9) and detects reflected light from synthetic resin forming the pressing plate (18) of the cover portion (10) when sheets in the sheet package (9) run out. A third cut-out portion (452) is formed in a third flat surface portion (60) of the sheet package (9). With the configuration, even though the light from the reflective optical sensor (80) is diffused, the reflection of the light by respective surfaces portions is prevented more accurately.
