摘要： The invention relates to an electrical energy conversion system (11) which is particularly suited for use in wind energy conversion systems. The system includes two magnetically separated permanent magnet machines (25, 27) linked by a freely rotating rotor (19) housing permanent magnets (39). The first machine is typically a synchronous generator, and the second an induction generator. The synchronous generator (25) has a stationary stator (21) which is connectable to an electrical system such as an electricity grid, and the induction generator (27) has a rotor (17) which is connectable to a mechanical drive system such as, for example, a wind turbine.

摘要： A method is provided for producing a wood infused liquid consumable. The liquid consumable is contained within a container (2, 40, 50) and is contacted with one or more wooden components (4, 42, 52) in order to enable a wood infusion process to take place. Said one or more wooden components are severed parts of an intermediate wooden sheet cut from a log (30) of wood by rotary cutting it tangentially from the outer surface of the log of wood in veneer fashion such that the intermediate wooden sheet has a thickness corresponding generally to the radial direction (“R”) with respect to the log of wood from which it was cut. The wooden component or components have a thickness of from 0.5 mm to 10 mm, preferably from 1 mm to 8 mm and most preferably from 3 mm to 6 mm. The invention also provides wooden components suitable for use in such a method. The wooden components may be in the form of any of a wooden sheet, strip (or slat), rectangular cross-sectioned rod, or small block.

摘要： The invention provides a method and device for applying radiation to a wound cavity resulting from a lumpectomy. The device comprises a non-deformable body of PTFE or similar material, with a rounded head and elongate stem or handle. The stem defines a channel which extends to the centre of the head for receiving a radiation source from a High Dose Rate, Remotely Controlled After-loading Brachytherapy Unit (HDRRCABU). The head of the device is inserted into the wound cavity and the wound is closed, so that the tissue forming the wound cavity is given a precisely controlled dose of radiation in a matter of minutes/hours rather than days/weeks.

摘要： An antimicrobial polymer compound is provided having the formula (I) in which R is selected to provide acceptable characteristics to the compound. R is preferably selected from simple alkyl chains having from 1 to 15 carbon atoms and generally no more than 4 or 6 carbon atoms; tertiary amine groups having short chain alkyl groups with from 1 to 15 carbon atoms and generally no more than 4 or 6 carbon atoms; aromatic compounds having only one aromatic ring with one or more simple substituents such as hydroxide; and quaternary ammonium salts, preferably bromide or iodide, wherein the substituents are short chain alkyl groups with from 1 to 15 carbon atoms and generally no more than 4 or 6 carbon atoms. The antimicrobial polymer compound may be formed into fibers, especially nano fibers, and the fibers may be formed into filter elements especially for air or water.
