    • A bicycle gear shifting system having rotatable front and rear handgrip shift actuators (408,410) operatively associated with control cables (415,417) for shifting respective front and rear derailleur mechanisms. A shifter rotator (412,413) drives a separate "jack spool" (436) which in turn actuates the control cable (415,417). A cam on the jack spool (436) is configured so as to substantially compensate for increasing force of the derailleur return spring during down-shifting. Compensation is provided in the shift actuator (408,410) for various lost motions in the derailleur shifting mechanisms and control cable systems. The shift actuator (408,410) also provides overshift movement of the derailleur mechanisms in the down-shifting direction so as to overshift the bicycle chain a sufficient amount beyond the destination derailleur sprocket so that the chain will approach the destination sprocket in the same direction as it would in the up-shifting direction. The shift actuator (408,410) also provides equalization for the higher derailleur return spring force during down-shifting than during up-shifting, and allow fine-tuning to avoid chain rasp, which is particularly important for "cross-over" riding.

    • A bicycle shifter (10) for pulling and releasing a control cable (11) connected to a gear change mechanism that includes a housing mountable to a handlebar, a takeup member, a control member, a holding mechanism and a release mechanism. The takeup member is movable for pulling the control cable (11) in a cable-pull direction and releasing the control cable (11) in a cable-release direction. The control member is movable in a shift direction from a rest position for a first shift movement to permit motion of the takeup member in the cable-release direction. The first shift movement corresponds to a single gear change. The control member is moveable in the shift direction from the rest position for a second shift movement to move the takeup member in the cable-pull direction. The second shift movement corresponds to one or more gear changes. The second shift movement is greater than the first shift movement. The control member is biased toward the rest position. The holding mechanism retains the takeup member in a selected gear position. The drive mechanism is operable for releasing the holding mechanism from the takeup member and for moving the takeup member in response to actuation of the control member.

    • A bicycle suspension system that includes an indicator for displaying the travel of a bicycle suspension system in response to an applied load. The system includes an inner tube telescopically engaging with the outer tube along an axis. A biasing mechanism biases the inner and outer tube apart from each other along the axis. The indicator is disposed along a length of the inner and outer tubes. The indicator may include a plurality of markings on the inner tube and a pointer on the outer tube. Each marking corresponds to a distance that the inner and outer tubes may be displaced relative to each other. The suspension system may include an adjustment mechanism that adjusts the distance the inner and outer tubes may be displaced relative to each other in response to an applied load. The rider may select the desired travel by actuating the adjustment mechanism to align the marking corresponding to the desired travel with the pointer. The indicator allows the rider to easily determine and select the travel of the suspension system without having to use a separate measuring device.
