摘要： A geophone is disclosed that has a cylindrical housing (116) closed at one end by a bottom and the other end by a top. A magnet assembly of a rare earth magnet (112) with pole pieces (113, 114) at each end of the magnet (112) is centrally mounted in the housing (116), providing an annular space between the magnet assembly and the housing. A coil form (120) is located in the annular space. Springs (124, 125) support the coil form (120) for axial movement relative to the magnet assembly along the longitudinal axis of the housing (116). The rare earth magnet (112) produces a magnetic field sufficiently strong that the pole pieces (113, 114) can be made longer than the coils (122, 123) on the coil form (120) thereby provided a uniform magnetic field in which the coils (122, 123) move thereby reducing the amount of harmonic distorsion produced by the geophone.

摘要： A method for making an internal upset (20A) on metal drill pipe (10) having a transition section (24A) with a curved inner periphery (28A) of a concave curvature extending continuously between the central portion (12) of the pipe (10) and the increased thickness end section (22A) and formed from a radius (R2). An external upset (20) is first formed in forging steps as shown in Figures 2 and 4 by radially expanding and squeezing the end of pipe (10). Then the final forging step radially contracts the external upset (20) to form the internal upset (20A) as shown in Figures 3 and 5. The finished internal upset (20A) as shown in Figure 7 has a transition section (24A) with an inner peripheral curved surface (28A) formed from a radius (R2). The forging steps are performed with a single heating of the metal drill time in a minimum of time preferably within around one (1) minute but in any event less than around two (2) minutes.

At one end of the member (10) a slip and elevator section (14) is provided. A partially grooved section (16) of a diameter greater than that of the slip and elevator section extends between the slip and elevator section (24) and the other end of the member (10). The partially grooved section (16) includes two variable depth grooved sections (18, 20) separated by an ungrooved section (22). The ungrooved section (22) includes hardbanding rings (26, 28). The spiral grooves (30A, 30B, 30C) of variable depth grooved section (18, 20) vary in depth as a function of member length such that the bending moment of inertia varies as a function of length from the slip and elevator section (14) to the lower end of the member (10). Such variation changes from a constant bending moment of inertia at the slip and elevator section (14) to a substantially greater bending moment of inertia at the ungrooved section (22) and thence to a lower bending moment of inertia of a reduced diameter section (24) at its other end.

摘要： A longitudinally heat shrinkable closure sheet (11) has a hold-down adhesive portion (14) adjacent each longitudinal end for application on the exposed end portions (16a,16b) a heat shrinkable wrap-around sleeve (16) applied around a pipe or other article to be covered. Heat is applied to the closure sheet (11) in order to weld the adhesive free portion of the underside of the closure sheet (11) to the end portions of wrap-around sleeve (16). The initial shrinkage of the closure sheet (11) between the hold-down adhesive portions draws it tightly into contact with the upper side of the end portions (16a,16b).Shearing forces are applied between the closure sheet (11) and the end portions (16a, 16b) firstly as the closure sheet (11) contracts relative to the end portions (16a,16b), and secondly, as the sleeve (16) shrinks, develops hoop stress and stretches the closure sheet (11), and a high strength fusion bond is achieved between the closure sheet (11) and sleeve (16).

摘要： A heat shrinkable wrap-around sleeve (1) adapted to be applied to an article in wrapping relation thereto comprising a sheet (2) of dimensionally heat unstable flexible material having longitudinally spaced end portions (2a, 2b) capable of being brought into overlapping relation when the sheet is applied to the article, the material having been stretched in the longitudinal direction from an original heat stable form to a dimensionally heat unstable form capable of moving in the direction of its original form by the application of heat alone, and a closure strip (3) having one edge disposed on one of the end portions of said sheet and welded thereto, said strip being of sufficient width that when the end portions of the sheet are brought together and the end portion having the closure strip is overlapped on the opposite end portion, the closure strip can be applied on the underlapping end portion and welded thereto by direct heating applied thereon, said closure strip differing from said sheet material in at least one characteristic selected from (a) dimensional heat stability; (b) color; (c) chemical composition; (d) degree of crosslinking; (e) thickness; and (f) method by which it has been crosslinked.
