    • A household appliance includes a tub, in which a liquid is at least temporarily contained, and a pump assembly for effecting liquid flow within the tub. The pump assembly includes a housing including a flow path portion that is integrally formed and defines an inlet, an outlet, and a flow path extending between and interconnecting the inlet and the outlet. The flow path portion defines a turn, such that at least part of the flow path extends in a direction that is oriented at an angle relative to the inlet axis. The pump assembly includes an impeller rotatable about an impeller axis. The impeller includes a plurality of blades extending at least substantially radially from the impeller axis and configured to propel a fluid at least substantially axially thereby. The impeller is positioned in the flow path adjacent the inlet such that the impeller axis and the inlet axis are at least substantially parallel or at least substantially aligned.

    • A self-centering device for a motor having a base and a shaft extending through the base and rotatable relative to the base along an axis includes a housing having a flange for securing the housing to the motor base. A bushing is connected to the housing and has a passage for receiving the motor shaft. A rotary encoder is secured to the housing and configured to measure at least one of position or rotation of the motor shaft. Positioning the motor shaft in the passage in the bushing centers the housing on the motor shaft to place the encoder in a desired position for measuring the at least one of position or rotation of the motor shaft.

    • An electric motor control system includes a power inverter and control circuitry configured to control the power inverter either according to a target voltage in a voltage-based control mode or according to a target current in a current-based control mode. A controller is operable to switch operation of the control circuitry between the voltage-based control mode and the current-based control mode. The controller may be configured to operate the control circuitry in the current-based control mode at lower motor operating speeds where stator current margin is of greater significance, and to operate the control circuitry in the voltage-based control mode at higher motor operating speeds where stator voltage margin is of greater significance.
