摘要： In a multi-point method of determining a human time-zero blood volume a radioactive tracer is injected into the blood stream, and a plurality of mixed samples of blood and tracer are removed from the blood stream at a corresponding plurality of measured time intervals subsequent to the injecting step; a blood portion volume corresponding to each time interval is automatically determined from the diluted tracer level in the mixed samples, and a time-zero blood portion volume is automatically calculated from the determined blood portion volumes and time intervals.
An analyzer for the method includes a sample holder for receiving the samples, means for automatically determining from levels of the tracer in the mixed samples a blood portion volume corresponding to each time interval, and means for automatically calculating therefrom the time-zero blood portion volume.
The invention is useful prior to surgery or blood transfusion.

The kit comprises a syringe (12), pre-filled with a known quantity of a radioactive tracer as injectate (14). The back of a small-bore needle (20) is affixed to the syringe front. The front of a removable plastic needle cover (24) incorporates airtight stopper (22) for creating and maintaining an airlock in the needle front, thereby to prevent any contact between the tracer and the cover and so preclude any loss of tracer upon removal of the cover from the needle. A valve (30) normally seals the syringe back, the valve including actuatable means for enabling a fluid flow into the syringe back, both for pre-filling of the syringe with injectate and for flushing of the injectate from the syringe into the subject.
