摘要： An active matrix electroluminescent display device uses a stepped voltage waveform to the input of the pixel, the stepped voltage waveform being voltage-shifted by a previously stored pixel drive voltage before application to the gate of a drive transistor. The level of the voltage shift determines the duty cycle with which the display element is driven, and thereby controls the grey level output. The height of the steps in the stepped voltage waveform is greater than the voltage width of linear operating region of the drive transistor, so that a selected step of the stepped waveform defines a transition from the drive transistor between fully on and fully off. In this way, the drive transistor is never driven in the linear region.

摘要： An active matrix display has a column driver for providing signals to the pixels for driving the display elements, the column driver comprising digital to analogue converter circuitry providing a first number of display element drive levels. Within each pixel, the first number of display element drive levels is converted into a second, greater number, of pixel grey levels. This combines multi-level digital to analogue conversion with in-pixel level generation and enables the complexity of the DACs to be reduced so that they can be integrated onto the display substrate, for example using low temperature polysilicon processing.

The display comprises radiation-sensitive control units (4) which decode the information about brightness and color of a pixel in the signal beam (I) of a projector (2) and drive connected light-emitting diodes (3) accordingly. 摘要： In an active matrix electroluminescent display device, a storage capacitor (24) is provided for storing a voltage to be used for addressing a drive transistor (22). A discharge photodiode (27) is provided for discharging the storage capacitor in dependence on the light output of the display element, and an input data voltage applied to the pixel is changed by an amount corresponding to the threshold voltage of the drive transistor. The changed data voltage is applied between the gate and source of the drive transistor. In this device the initial voltage on the gate of the drive transistor is modified so as to remove the dependency of the light output on the threshold voltage, so that threshold voltage variations can be tolerated.

Also, the reference voltage generation circuit (500), which provides the signal A and signal B, is formed within the display panel (100). When the display device is under the digital display mode, the reference voltage generation circuit (500) prepares the signal fed to the display electrode (80). Thus, there is no need to supply the signal A or signal B from outside, resulting in the simpler configuration of the external circuits. Also, since the drive of the external circuits can be completely halted under the digital display mode, it is possible to further reduce the consumption of the electric power.
