摘要： A method of limiting the maximum permitted sound volume in an earphone, a headset or the like, includes the step that the size of the driving signal for driving the earphone is sensed. The driving signal has a voltage that is less than approx. 0.7 V. If the driving signal exceeds a certain level, a part of the driving signal is shunted past the earphone. A second part of the driving signal is diverted. Either the voltage of the diverted part is increased and controls the shunt device by which the first part of the driving signal is shunted past the earphone, or it is supplied to a unit with a detector device and the shunt device. The unit is sensitive to work at voltages below approx. 0.7 V. An earphone or the like for the above-mentioned method comprises a shunt device and a detector device whose current source is the signal source of the earphone.

摘要： Provided are input-gain control apparatus and method of an audio amplifier. A gain of an acoustic signal is automatically attenuated based on a pre-set limited level to minimize distortion of the acoustic signal caused by clipping of the acoustic signal, and thereby limit an over-input of the acoustic signal to input the acoustic signal within a dynamic range if the acoustic signal is not input within the dynamic range in an audio apparatus including an acoustic amplifier and a switching amplifier. Thus, only a gain of an over-input signal on a specific level or more can be attenuated while an original form of the over-input signal is maintained to minimize distortion of an output waveform caused by clipping of the output waveform. Also, a harmonic distortion and a stepped high frequency noise occurring during clipping can be simultaneously removed.

The variable threshold is adjusted within a threshold range based on the supply voltage (134). Distortion due to clipping of the audio signal is minimized while available power at any given time is maximized.
