    • The present invention relates to unsaturated polyester resin or vinyl ester resin compositions; that are curable with a peroxide component; and that, comprise - while being cured - an inhibitor, a polymer containing reactive unsaturations, optionally a reactive diluent, and a dioxo-component; which compositions are essentially free of cobalt; and in which the dioxo-component consists of one or more dioxo-compounds having a calculated reduction energy (CRE), being the energy difference in kcal/mole between the lowest energy conformations of the radical anion and the corresponding neutral molecule as calculated by means of the Turbomole Version 5 program, in the range of from -5 to -30 kcal/mole. These resin compositions show a reduced gel-time drift tendency. Moreover, it has been found that gel-time of these resin compositions can be easily and favorably adjusted by adjusting their transition metal content.
      The present invention further also relates to objects and structural parts prepared from such unsaturated polyester or vinyl ester resin compositions by curing with a peroxide. The present invention finally also relates to methods of peroxide curing of unsaturated polyester resin or vinyl ester resin compositions.

    • The present invention relates to unsaturated polyester resin or vinyl ester resin compositions; that are curable with a peroxide component; and that, comprise - while being cured - a salt and/or a base, a polymer containing reactive unsaturations, optionally a reactive diluent, and a dioxo-component; which compositions are essentially free of cobalt; and contain either as the salt an organic or inorganic salt of which the cation has a redox potential of the metal of at most -1 V, or is an ammonium ion; and/or as the base either an inorganic base of which the cation has a redox potential of the metal of at most -1 V, or a nitrogen containing organic compound; and in which the dioxo-component consists of one or more dioxo-compounds having a calculated reduction energy (CRE), being the energy difference in kcal/mole between the lowest energy conformations of the radical anion and the corresponding neutral molecule as calculated by means of the Turbomole Version 5 program, in the range of from -5 to -30 kcal/mole. These resin compositions show a reduced gel-time drift tendency. Moreover, it has been found that gel-time of these resin compositions can be easily and favorably adjusted by varying the amount of base.

    • An inventive powder composition comprises one or more than one finely divided resin chosen from a thermoplastic degradable copolyester resin containing both aliphatic and aromatic groups, a degradable UV curable polyester, a mixture of a cyclic oligomeric polyester resin, a ring opening polymerization catalyst and a degradable polyester, a degradable thermosetting polyester resin and mixtures thereof, the powder having an average particle size or diameter, as determined by laser light scattering, of from 30 to 125 µm. The composition provides thin, degradable coatings for foamed and biodegradable substrates, e.g. starch disposal articles. An apparatus for holding foam or light weight substrates comprises one or more than one perforated female pattern or jig molded in the shape of a substrate and a stand for holding said jig(s) having within it at least one enclosed chamber attached to one or more than one vacuum line, wherein the perforations in each of said jig(s) lead into said enclosed chamber. Coatings may be provided by placing a substrate in the jig, applying the powder composition to the substrate, and heating the substrate to flow out or melt said powder and to, with vacuum assistance, coalesce the melt or flow out to form a film to thoroughly coat the substrate.
