摘要： A skate brake particularly suited for an inline skate (15) includes a braking carriage formed of left and right plates (50) spaced apart by axles (85) that support rollers (220) thereon. The rollers engage the wheels (70) of the skate when the carriage is maneuvered to the appropriate elevation, and the momentum of the wheels is arrested as a result of a frictional bearing (20) of the rollers against the carriage surface. The carriage is raised and lowed by a rocker (170) mounted below the skate and coupled to the carriage plates, where rotation of the rocker drives the plates and the carriage downward such that the rollers (220) contact one or more wheels. The rocker (170) is actuated by a linkage that includes a pushrod (100) and a second rocker (115) that is mounted to the skate boot, allowing the user to control the braking carriage by applying pressure to a rear location of the boot.

摘要： A method for fore-aft stabilization of a vehicle for motion in a specified direction over an underlying surface. The vehicle has at least one forward wheel and at least one aft wheel, and the forward wheel is characterized by a force normal to the instantaneous direction of motion of the vehicle. A motor actuator drives each aft wheel, and a controller governs the motor actuator or motor actuators in such a manner as to dynamically stabilize the vehicle, according to a uniform control law, when the forward wheel is in contact with the underlying surface or not. A torque is applied to the aft wheel on the basis of vehicle pitch or the force on the forward wheel normal to the direction of motion. Additionally, a periodic rotational modulation may be applied to the aft wheel, and a stabilizing torque provided based on a detected response, either of vehicle pitch or of normal force on the front wheel. Left and right motor actuators may independently control left and right aft wheels to continue turns as governed by user steering, whether or not forward wheels are in contact with the ground.

摘要： A cambering vehicle includes a single steerable front wheel (58) and a pair of rear wheels (70, 72) at the rearward ends of trailing arms (16, 18) extending from the front structure. The two arms are articulated to the front structure, and move arcuately in plane parallel to the steering column. In one embodiment the arms are linked by a yoke (40), and traverse equal arcuate distances in opposite directions relative to one another. In another embodiment the yoke is replaced by a transverse link (140), with elastomer bushing (141, 143) connecting the link ends to their respective arms. The vehicle operates using the principle of conservation of angular momentum, with the vehicle travelling a sinusoidal path and the operator leaning to the inside of the turn. This moves the center of gravity of the vehicle and operator to the inside of the turn, thus accelerating vehicle and operator along the turning path to increase velocity of the device.
