摘要： This invention relates to optical waveguide filters and, in particular, to a switchable optical filter particularly useful for gain equalization, for adding and dropping optical channels, and for optical cross-connection. A filter comprises a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (11) comprising a pair of waveguide arms (12,13) extending between a pair of couplers (14,15). The arms include a series of phase shifters (φ 1 ...φ N+1 ) in at least one arm separated by reflective filters (Λ 1 ...Λ N ) on both arms. By adjusting the phase shifters, the reflection by the filter of signals at wavelengths corresponding to the reflective filters can be adjusted independently.

摘要： An organic non-linear optical material (1), having polymer side chains terminally substituted with secondary non-linear optical dye molecules, is passed through a pair of press rollers (2a and 2a) and a pair of stretch rollers (4a and 4b). In this way, a polymer film (3) having oriented dye molecules is continuously produced. The polymer films (3) so produced are then laminated in such a manner that the directions of orientation of the dye molecules in adjacent films become opposite to prepare a thin film laminate. The resulting thin film laminate is cut in a predetermined direction into a predetermined thickness to produce a thin film waveguide for an optical device having a periodic domain structure with a specific submicron period or its odd multiple.

摘要： The present invention provides a method and a circuit for increasing a time delay in an optical signal in an integrated optoelectronic circuit without a proportionate increase in the circuit area. The method uses multiple layers of optical waveguide fabricated in a vertical hierarchy in combination with concentric circular paths. The different sections of the optical waveguide delay line 103, 107 on the multiple layers are connected by electro-optic couplers to pass the optical signal between the sections. In a preferred embodiment, the optical couplers 105, 108 are a poled Electro-Optic (EO) region of cladding 506 allowing the coupler to be electrically addressed. Alternatively, in another embodiment, the couplers 105, 108 may be fabricated with a polymer that is optically nonlinear 406. This type of coupler could be addressed, or activated, by an optical signal, or a component of the optical signal traveling through the coupler.
