摘要： The supercharging system for an internal combustion engine comprises a plurality of exhaust-gas turbochargers which are connected in parallel to one another. One of the exhaust-gas turbochargers has an adjustable turbine guide geometry and is connected to an electric motor/generator. This results in two regulated systems, wherein the first regulated system regulates the motor/generator and the second regulated system regulates the adjustable guide geometry. A reference operating point of one exhaust-gas turbocharger is set by way of one of the two regulated systems, and the operating point of said exhaust-gas turbocharger is approximated or adapted to that of the other exhaust-gas turbochargers by way of the second regulated system.

摘要： A method for controlling an electrically assisted turbocharger (1,20,30,40,50) is provided. The turbocharger comprises a compressor assembly (3) having a compressor wheel for compressing a fluid to an engine (7), a turbine assembly (2) having a turbine wheel driven by an exhaust gas of the engine (7) and driving the compressor wheel (2), and an electric motor (4) for electrically driving the compressor wheel. Furthermore, at least the turbine assembly (2) comprises a variation means (10,21) for varying an operational condition of the turbine assembly (2). The method comprises the steps of judging that the actual operational condition of the engine (7) requires electrical driving of the compressor wheel, controlling said variation means (10,21) in accordance with a rotational speed of the engine (7) or in accordance with an engine load, and operating the electric motor (4) to drive the compressor wheel in accordance with a target operational condition of the engine 7.

摘要： This invention sets forth a commercially viable diesel combustion system that meets environmentally acceptable levels of NOx emissions (i.e. 0.2g/bhp-hr or lower across a full map of engine speeds and loads) without the need for use of Nox aftertreatments, and simultaneously maintains engine-out PM emissions relatively close (e.g. with smoke levels at or below 3 BSN) to environmentally acceptable PM post-aftertreatment levels. The invention achieves these results by operating within a unique combination of parameters. These parameters comprise: (1) charge-air oxygen concentration below 16% preferably between 10% and 15%, more preferably between 11.5% and 14%, and most preferably between 12% and 13.5% for virtually all engine operating conditions (but not necessarily at no-load or low load conditions), (2) fuel injection pressures at or exceeding 1800 bar, preferably exceeding 2100 bar, more preferably exceeding 2300 bar, and most preferably exceeding 2500 bar, at most engine speeds an loads, and (3) charge-air mass/fuel mass ratio between 25:1 and 45:1 for medium and high loads. Furthermore, the system is preferably run continuously slightly lean of stoichiometry, providing just enough excess oxygen to facilitate completeness of combustion and to maintain an exhaust oxygen concentration sufficient for continuous trap regeneration at a balance point in operation.
