摘要： The present invention provides for a food waste disposer having a food conveying section (102), a grinding section (104), a motor section (106) and a controller (220). The motor section comprises a switched reluctance motor having a rotor and a stator. The controller is electrically connected to the stator to control the switched reluctance machine. The controller is capable of directing rotational movement to the rotatable shaft (126) and the portion of the grinding mechanism mounted thereon. The controller is further capable of maintaining the rotational movement of the rotatable shaft at more than one rotational speed. The present invention also includes methods of operating a variable speed motor in different operational modes such as a soft start mode, optimized grinding mode, idle more, rinse mode, and an anti-jamming mode.

摘要： A waste disposal apparatus (10) has a cutter apparatus (14) with angled teeth. The cutters (34) may be disposed in a passage of a housing having an inlet and an outlet. The cutter apparatus has a stationary cutter (42) and a pivoting cutter (43) which pivots with respect to the stationary cutter. The stationary cutter has a plurality of teeth intermeshing with a plurality of teeth on the secondary cutter as the secondary cutter pivots. The teeth of the stationary and pivoting cutters have edges that extend towards one another at an angle with respect to a traverse direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis such that the teeth meet at an angle. Each edge has a leading edge which meets first to concentrate cutting force at a point along the edge. The force moves along the edge from the leading edge to a trailing edge. A drive means rotates the pivoting cutter. The waste disposal apparatus may be a water powered waste disposal apparatus. The drive means may have a housing defining an annular chamber with a drive piston slidingly disposed therein and coupled to the pivoting cutter.

摘要： @ A macerator for reducing soiled paper pulp products such as bedpans and the like has a housing (18) which is closeable by means of a lid (16) which is provided with an internal spray (72). At the base of the housing (18) is a rotatably mounted agitating blade (48) having two cutting edges inclined in different directions to the rotational axis of the cutting blade. The agitating blade is located and/or orientated asymmetrically within the housing. In particular, the axis of rotation of the agitating blade (48) may be inclined to the longitudinal axis of the housing, and the axis of rotation may or may not intersect the longitudinal axis of the housing. Alternatively, or in addition, the agitating blade (48) may be displaced or offset from the longitudinal axis of the housing (18). This results in a high hydraulic shear between the agitating blade and the internal wall of the housing on liquid within the housing. The effect is pronounced when the blade is closly spaced from the wall of the housing. A valve which is particularly useful with the macerator has a valve closure member (52) is in the form of a relatively rigid sealing portion (56) connected to a flexible diaphragm portion (54). A pressure chamber is formed behind the sealing member and the diaphragm portion, and the sealing portion may be urged into engagement with a valve seat by application of fluid pressure behind the diaphragm and the sealing member.

摘要： This invention relates to a method of reducing the particle size of solid particles and is applicable to the production of very fine particles of a wide variety of solids, includuing relatively hard solids. The method comprises milling a liquid suspension of solid particles in an agitated media mill (13), pumping the milled suspension through a particle size classification device (16) to separate the slurry into a coarse fraction (17) and a fine fraction (18), the particles of the coarse fraction having a greater median particle size than the particles of the fine fraction, recycling the coarse fraction (17) from the particle size classification device to the input of the mill (13), and recycling the fine fraction (18) by pumping (15) it to the classification device, wherein recycling of both coarse and fine fractions are continued until solid particles of the desired reduced particle size are produced. Preferably a single classification device and a single mill can be used, and particles having a median particle size of 0.3 microns or less and a relatively narrow particle size distribution can be produced, even using a hydrocyclone as the classification device.
