    • A dental camera (10) and a mouthpiece attachment (12) therefor. The camera (10) has a light source (42) and a light receiving element (44) configured for receiving reflected light and producing an image (59) based on the received light. The mouthpiece (12) is mountable to the housing (50) of the camera (10) and is configured for contacting a patient's mouth for positioning the camera (10) with respect to at least a portion of the mouth. The mouthpiece (12) has a light channel associated with the light source (42) for permitting the emitted light to reflect off a tooth in a patient's mouth and permitting the reflected light travel into the receiving element (44). A wing (22, 24) extends radially from the light channel (20) and configured and dimensioned for placement between a lip and teeth of a patient for substantially blocking light from entering the light channel from outside the wing (22, 24). A display (18) on the housing (50) is associated with the receiving element (44) for displaying the image (59). A sound receiving element (64A) on the housing (50) allows a dentist to record voice comments and store these in connection with the images (59).

    • The system includes a controller having first and second speech recognition modules and a decision module. The system includes at least one medical device operable by the controller. The system includes a first microphone in communication with the first speech recognition module, and a second microphone in communication with the second speech recognition module. The first speech recognition module generates a first set of commands from voice signals it receives from the first microphone. The second speech recognition module generates a second set of commands from voice signals it receives from the second microphone. The decision module receives the first and second sets of commands, accepts a subset of the commands in the first and second sets, rejects the remainder of the commands, and assembles a third set of commands comprising the accepted commands. The controller executes the third set of commands to operate the at least one medical device.
