    • A frictional engagement device for engaging a pair of members relatively rotating around a common axis is improved to obtain a smooth action. A first frictional engaging element is fitted unrotatably and axially movably to one of the relatively rotating member. A second frictional engaging element is unrotatably and axially movably fitted to the other of the relatively rotating member and disposed engageable to the first frictional engaging element. A first cam member which is axially movably fitted to one of the relatively rotating member and disposed apart from the second frictional engaging element has a slanted cam surface. A second cam member which is disposed adjacent to the first cam member on a side of the second frictional engaging element has a slanted cam surface parallelly opposing the cam surface of the first cam member. A piston means which is fitted to the second cam member has a surface engageable with the second frictional engagement element. A spring seat is disposed, not touching the piston means, in a space formed between the piston means and the second cam member. A return spring for biasing the second cam member toward the first cam member is fixed to an unmovable member on one end and fitted the spring seat on the other end. A pushing means selectively pushes the piston means onto the second frictional element through the second cam member to cause a frictional engagement between the piston means and the second frictional element so that the piston member being rotationally dragged with the second cam member and generates a cam force to engage the first frictional engaging element and the second frictional element. A friction decreasing means disposed between the spring seat and the second cam member decreases the friction between the spring seat and the second cam member to prevent the return spring from being rotationally dragged by the second cam member when the second cam member is rotationally dragged.

    • A clutch device with a cam mechanism is provided, which is free from drag loss when the phase is switched from a state wherein the cam mechanism is operative to a state wherein it is inoperative. A cam groove 1c and a recess 1d are formed on the inner surface 1a of a piston, and a cam groove 3c and a projection 3d to be inserted into the recess 1d are formed on the inner surface 3a of a pressure plate 3. Between the cam grooves 1c and the 3c is interposed a cam roller 2 loosely retained by a roller cage 4. When the hydraulic pressure is applied to the back surface 1b of the piston 1 while a C 3 clutch disk 5 rotates faster than the piston 1, the cam mechanism is operative to carry out the engagement operation. On the contrary, when the application of the hydraulic pressure is interrupted while the C 3 clutch disk 5 rotates slower than the piston 1, the engagement is released. Meanwhile, the riding of the cam roller 2 over the cam elements is avoidable by the recess 1d and the projection 3d.

    • A device for transmitting torque between two rotatable, coaxial shaft members (1, 2) in a stationary housing (4) has a clutch (11, 12) engageable to counteract differential rotational speed between the shaft members. A hydraulic clutch piston (14) is arranged to engage the clutch, and a hydraulic pump arrangement (1', 18 - 21, 11'', 14 - 17), driven by the speed differential between the two shaft members, creates a hydraulic pressure on the clutch piston. The hydraulic pump arrangement includes a supply piston (18) and the clutch piston. Rollers (17, 21) are rotatable with one of the shaft members (2) and engage the other of the shaft members (1) via cams (1', 11''), which are angularly offset in relation to each other, so as to impart to the pistons a reciprocating movement at the differential rotational speed between the shaft members. A hydraulic line system (25, 27, 29, 31) connects a cylinder (23) at the supply piston on one hand with the tank (24) via a check valve (26) and on the other hand - via a line (27) with a check valve (28) - with an outlet line (31) and connects a cylinder (30) at the clutch piston (14) with the outlet line.
