    • There is provided a cover locking mechanism that is provided to a cover hinged to an opening portion of a casing 10 to be openable/closable by a hinge and has a latch 40 formed to be hookable on to a circumference 17 of the opening portion of the casing 10. The mechanism includes a plate spring 41, one end of which (one end 41a of the plate spring) is attached to the cover, and which provides a biasing force in a direction from an inner side of the cover toward the circumference 17 of the opening portion to the latch thereby to bias the latch 40 attached to the other end (the other end 41b of the plate spring) toward the circumference 17 of the opening portion and to bring the latch 40 into contact with the circumference 17 of the opening portion. The latch 40 has a configuration (first notch 44) for holding the cover at a first open angle and a configuration (second notch 47) for preventing the cover from being opened beyond a second open angle greater than the first open angle, during an opening operation of the cover.

    • In a glove box for a vehicle, when a lid (14) for opening/closing a storage box (13) provided on an instrument panel (11) is in the closed position, then latching pawls (21b) provided in the lid (14) are latched into latching holes (13f) provided in the storage box (13). Due to the above, even if, during collision of the vehicle, the occupant hits the instrument panel (11) by way of a second collision, resulting in the storage box (13) being deformed, the aforementioned storage box (13) is deformed together with the lid (14),
      since ribs (20b) for the lid (14) are inserted into the latching holes (13f) in the storage box (13). Therefore, the positional relationships between the lathing pawls (21b) in the lid (14) and the latching holes (13f) in the storage box (13) are kept from changing. Thus it is possible to prevent the situation where the lathing pawls (21b) disengage from the latching holes (13f), resulting in the lid being open. This is a simple structure wherein merely a pair of ribs (20b) are added to the storage box (13), and therefore, it is possible to realize the structure at low cost.

    • A cover (2) of a housing (1) for contain various control devices mounted under floor of a vehicle is opened by itself due to vibration during traveling of the vehicle in the case of forgetting to lock the cover (2) or improper locking, resulting in a problem of danger. A latch (4) is held by a leaf spring (4b) that is mounted on backside of the cover (2) and the latch is biased from a center of an opening (10) of the housing (1) toward a periphery thereof. When the cover (2) is opened, a hook (4Y) formed at the latch (4) is hooked on a periphery of the opening (10) by bias force from the leaf spring (4b), thus preventing the cover (2) from being opened further. By inserting a finger through a slightly open gap to release the hook (4Y), the cover (2) can be opened easily.
