    • A digital cable receiver capable of improving reception performance of an additional signal in an out-of-band channel and a method of receiving the additional signal. The digital cable receiver can include an out-of-band filter to output the out-of-band channel, a band splitting unit to split the out-of-band channel into a predetermined number of frequency bands, a band selection unit to select a frequency band carrying the additional signal out of the split predetermined number of frequency band, a down-converter to down convert the additional signal in the selected frequency band into a predetermined intermediate frequency signal, and a control unit to control the band selection unit and the down-converter in cooperation with the cable card. Accordingly, the digital cable receiver can selectively pass only the frequency band carrying the additional signal out of the out of band channel using the information on the frequency band carrying the additional signal in the out-of-band channel obtained by cooperating with the cable card and can down-convert the selected frequency band, thereby eliminating interference with other channels adjacent to the additional signal.

    • The invention relates to a method for optimising signal reception for a broadcast data receiver. Broadcast Data Receivers are used to receive digital data transmitted from a remote location, process the same and then generate video, audio and auxiliary services. However the Broadcast data receiver is typically located in a household and can be susceptible to general and/or local conditions which affect the reception of the data signals at different frequencies. The present invention provides a method for optimising the signal reception at the broadcast data receiver location by allowing the analysis of amplitude gain control levels of the broadcast data receiver and then selecting the amplitude gain control levels and/or other levels which optimise the quality of the received signal at each frequency.

    • The invention relates generally to a method and an arrangement for receiving a radio frequency (RF) signal and an RF receiver. Particularly the invention relates to controlling and reducing power consumption in a radio receiver. The invention can advantageously be applied in receiving arrangements of radio systems, wherein information is transferred in bursts, such as a receiver of Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) system. According to the invention, during the time between two bursts the power supply is maintained in at least in some parts of the phase locked loop PLL (240), while one or several other parts (202, 204, 224, 225, 230, 262, 270) of the receiver are turned off for a certain time period between the two bursts. The present invention enables fast tuner lock-in time and still offers a considerable saving in total power consumption of the receiver.
