    • The present invention provides a ceramic sheath type part capable of preventing the breaking of a conductive wire rod(2, 2A, 2B, 22) and having a thermal resistance and a thermal shock resistance, and a method of manufacturing the same. In this ceramic sheath type part, a conductive wire rod(2, 2A, 2B, 22) is provided in a protective pipe(1, 41) of silicon nitride or SiAlON so as to extend longitudinally from one end toward the other end thereof, and buried in a filler(3, 20) of reaction sintered silicon nitride. The filler(3, 20) comprises two layers, i.e. a core portion(4) having a low sintering time size variation ratio, and a seal portion(5) constituting a boundary layer between the core portion(4) and the protective pipe(1, 41) and having a sintering time size variation ratio higher than that of the core poriton(4). The conductive wire rod(2) comprises a coil(22) of a metal wire. The coil(22) is formed helically along the whole length thereof, and the winding pitch of the coil(22) is set small, large and small in the mentioned order from a front end portion of a shell of the protective pipe(1, 41) toward a base end portion thereof.

    • A thermocouple structure capable of measurement of a high temperature with a high accuracy is constituted of a protective pipe(1) made of a heat-resistant ceramic; a pair of wires(2, 3) differing in kind and extending in the protective pipe(1) from one end thereof to the other end thereof in the longitudinal direction thereof in a state of being spaced away from each other; a thin film(4) constituting a temperature-sensing portion, made of a tungsten alloy, disposed on one end portion of said protective pipe(1), and connected to the wires(2, 3); and a covering layer(5) made of a heat-resistant ceramic and covering the thin film(4) in such a way as to disallow exterior exposure of the thin film(4). The protective pipe(1) is made of Si 3 N 4 , and a filling member(9) made of a powder mixture of Si 3 N 4 and TiN is filled in the protective pipe(1). Alternatively, a pair of printed strips(42, 43) differing in kind may be formed as wires in a protective pipe(41) to provide such a thermocouple structure.

    • Disclosed is an apparatus for monitoring the temperature of an implement being brazed to a workpiece. The preferred implement is a polycrystalline diamond composite compact which is brazed to a drill bit or other workpiece. The apparatus comprises an insulated a temperature probe comprising a stiff support rod (46) of predetermined length with a first passageway therethrough. An insulating handle (42) is connected in supporting relationship with the rod and has a second passageway therethrough which communicates with the first passageway. A heat shield (44) is disposed about the handle in the vicinity of its connection with the base portion of the rod. A thermocouple means (54) for generating signals correlative with temperature is disposed at the rod tip and energized from leads extending to an alarm unit (12). The alarm unit includes a power supply and a circuit which carries out a comparator function for energizing an annunciator when proper braze temperatures commence and further energizing the annunciator function to signal excessive temperature at the braze. A method provides using the apparatus disclosed herein.
