    • A device for managing and controlling the operation of elevators which is provided with a section of collecting traffic data for finding the traffic volume of the users of an elevator, a section of calculating the traffic volume based on the traffic data collected by the collecting section, a section of calculating the estimated traffic flow value of the users of the elevator moving up and down each story based on the traffic volume calculated by the traffic volume calculating section, a section of setting a control parameter for controlling the operation of the elevator based on the estimated traffic flow value calculated by the traffic flow calculating section, and a section of controlling the operation of the elevator based on the control parameter set by the setting section. In virtue of the above-specified constitution, the device is not required to store in advance the combinations of many traffic flow patterns and traffic volumes obtained from the patterns for controlling a group of elevators, but can manage and control the elevators by immediately calculating an estimated traffic flow value from traffic volume data observed so far and setting control parameters for managing and controlling the elevators corresponding to the calculated estimated traffic flow value.

    • A control device for elevators is provided for each of cages of a plurality of elevators, which are operated and controlled as one group, and is provided with a distributed group control function. The control device comprises cage control means for controlling operation of the respective elevator cages, cage information transmission means for transmitting information such as a cage position, cage direction, cage load and generation of cage calls between the present elevator and other elevators, platform information transmission means for performing transmission between the present elevator and platform equipment such as platform buttons installed on platforms, platform indicators and hall lanterns, and group control means for judging an allocation zone of the present elevator on the basis of cage positions and running directions of the present elevator and other elevators to decidedly allocate a platform call generated in the allocation zone of the present elevator to the present elevator on the basis of platform information from the platform information transmission means. Thus the control device for elevators dispenses with a group device such that the respective control devices transmit information therebetween respond to platform calls generated behind other elevators. Also, a cage positioned nearby is allocated and is kept on stand-by when there is no call, to which is should answer.

    • Each car in a group of elevator cars in a building is determined to be available or not depending on whether it is assigned in the group, whether it is the only delayed car, whether it is fully loaded without intervening car calls which comprise all the car calls, whether it has intervening hall calls, and whether other cars in the group are fully loaded with or without some chance of offloading passengers before reaching a call to be assigned. Among available cars, assignment is made based on each car's membership in fuzzy sets relating to low, medium or high delay in that car responding to the call and each car's membership in fuzzy sets indicative of the extent to which assignment of that car will have no adverse effect or a very high adverse effect on the response to already-assigned hall calls. The call is assigned to the car with the highest summation of weighted memberships in the fuzzy sets.

    • This invention is a modernisation tool during a changeover installation to maintain optimum service to a building by providing evenly distributed hall call routing to old and new controllers (5,7; 13,16).
      The re-eqipment of the elevators (A,B,C,D,E,F) takes place step by step individually or in groups with minimum intrusion into the old system and with full maintenance of the safety functions that are present. During the time an elevator (D) to be re-equipped is shut down the original not yet re-equipped elevators (N1) as well as the already re-equipped elevators (N2) respond as a single bank, one car per call.
      To this end, an Interim Traffic Manager (ITM) is placed between the pushbutton fixtures (8) and the old and new controllers (5,7;13,16). When a floor pushbutton (31) is pressed, the microprocessor-based Interim Traffic Manager (ITM) uses an routing algorithm (RA) to decide, whether to send the call to the old or to the new system, in dependence on traffic loading.
      The Interim Traffic Manager (ITM) is an inexpensive, re-usable unit, which resides on the job site temporarily, and therefore adds no additional costs to the modernisation of an elevator group. Technical knowledge required for its installation is restricted to fixture wiring.
