摘要： An insect trapping device generates its own insect attractants of carbon dioxide (CO2), heat and water vapor through catalytic conversion (84) of a hydrocarbon fuel in a combustion chamber (68). The hot insect attractants generated in the combustion chamber are diluted and cooled to a temperature above ambient temperature and below about 115 °F by mixing with air, and then the mixture is exhausted downward through the exhaust tube (48). A counterflow of outside air (52) is drawn into the trap through the suction tube (32) that concentrically surrounds the exhaust tube. Biting insects are captured in a porous, disposable bag (34) connected to the other end (36) of the suction tube. A thermoelectric generator, including thermoelectric modules (102) coupled to the combustion chamber generate power for fans (38, 64) that provide the exhaust flow and the suction flow. Additional chemical attractants may be used with the device to make the trap even more effective. The trap may be adapted for trapping different types of insects by adjusting airflow velocities and attractants.

摘要： An apparatus (10) for attracting and destroying insects is disclosed. The apparatus (10) simulates a host animal and has an electrified grid (20) constructed and arranged for intercepting the flight of the insect around the apparatus (10), thereby increasing the efficiency of the apparatus in destroying insects. The apparatus generally includes a source of carbon dioxide (14), a source of octenol (16), a device (50) for emitting the carbon dioxide proximate the source of octenol to create a mixture of the carbon dioxide and octenol, a heating element (60) and an electrified grid (20). Insects are initially attracted to the apparatus by the odor associated with the mixture of carbon dioxide and octenol. As the insects fly closer to the apparatus, they are further attracted to the visual properties of the apparatus and then, at close range, they are attracted to the heat emitted by the heating element. In an attempt to fly closer to the heating element, the insects are intercepted by the electrified grid (20) and destroyed.
